Governor Bob Riley has declared October as “Alabama Food Products Month” and it’s a time to enjoy many of the delicious food products created and produced here in Alabama...the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, the Alabama Grocers Association, the Alabama Food Manufacturers and Producers Association, and the Alabama Department of Tourism and Travel to kick off their “Buy Alabama’s Best” campaign...encourages Alabamians to buy Alabama food products to help their friends and neighbors. “Alabama’s food product industry helps Alabama’s economy grow by creating an annual economic impact of over $2 billion. It keeps our companies strong and keeps jobs here at home in Alabama.”

A portion of the proceeds from the October Month of Alabama Food will go to benefit the Janie Sims Children’s Foundation. This Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with cancer and their families and is committed to supporting and funding research toward a cure for pediatric cancer. All of the money from this Foundation stays here in Alabama through Children’s Hospital.

Big Bob Gibson's white barbecue sauce! My daughter would take bottles of it with her to Tuscaloosa when she was in school. I do know the recipe, though!
Also...you can't live in the Decatur area without a copy of the Junior Leage of Morgan County's "Cotton Country Cooking." It has classic Southern dishes that are served at supper clubs and Sunday school dinners all over. Ask for a recipe, and you'll often be told, "It's from Cotton Country."

Meat and eggs fresh from the farmer down the road, veggies from the back yard or from the farmer's markets and local farmers, fruit and fruit juices from local orchards.

It's near impossible to top that kind of fast service from farm to table for freshness and taste and it's good for your neighbors and economy. And it's healthy. What's not to love?
