Where is the prettiest area to live in the Eastern Shore AL?
We are moving to the Eastern Shore area and would love to find an area that has huge oak trees with Spanish Moss driping from them and grand southern homes. Also, we like a town or community setting - something that is not just a housing area but more of a community with community activities. Basically, we are looking for the "preferred" area. Anyone in the know?

Fairhope or Silverhill are my suggestions.

Which would you say is the nicer area, Spanish Fort, Fairhope or Dauphine (sp?)? They look the same to me, but someone said that Fairhope is for retirees and Spanish Fort is the most affluent. Is this true? I've never heard of Silverhill.

Well it really all depends on what you are looking for.. Fairhope has a lot of retirees but you asked about a feeling of an old town. Can't say they have the southern mansions of old but there are some neat houses. Spanish fort and Daphne are nice but newer for the most part and much younger don't have the quaint town feeling. Many older homes in Daphne are on the bay. Silverhill is a very small town and has some interesting homes.
If you are going to working in Mobile, have kids in school and are younger, you would be better off in Spanish Fort or Daphne.

Muskrat I know that you said you are looking for an area on the eastern shire but huge oak trees with Spanish moss dripping from them with grand southern styl homes. Homes that are around 100 to 200 years old but are in graet ! condition are found in Mobile the western shore. Baw\ldwin county is a great place to live but with those discriptions I would say Moile al the way.

In my opinion, either Montrose community in Fairhope or Point Clear community south of the Grand Hotel. Both on Old Highway 98 and are beautiful areas with lovely homes.

The Eastern Shore was nice 10 yrs. but now is the fastest growing area in the south. Growth has destroyed the Eastern Shore. School are no good and crime is on the rise.
Cost of living is out of sight.Taxes have increased 3 fold. I would think twice before investing there.

Big oaks, dripping moss, prettiest area on the Eastern Shore? I'd say your best bet is one of three places. Montrose, adjoining Fairhope to the North. Point Clear, just South of the Grand Hotel area. Magnolia Springs, anywhere along the river. The absolute best way to get exactly what you want is to find the perfect lot and have your home built by someone that specializes in waterfront building in this area.

I'd have to say Point Clear or Spanish Fort.
