Default Job Offer in Dothan AL

Well let's start with my girlfriend was offered a job in Dothan (She currently works for the same company here in Rhode Island). It's a huge opportunity, but never having been to Alabama ever in our lives. We are tossing back and forth the idea.

How do ya'll feel about Yankees?? LOL

Where would be the best places - to look for housing - we are pretty much city people but we kind of like the idea of moving into a country area with some land.. So where would you recommend to have the happy medium???

I don't know there are a million questions? Jobs? and I just went into brain freeze mode!

What about the gay community down there? Is there one?

Well I don't know don't think this post really means all that much HAHA... But maybe some insight from the locals would help..... And please don't be gay bashers.... I have no need for your ignorance or your self rightous attitude.... Wether you like it or not I might one day be your neighbor

Thanks for any help you can offer...

Melissa:

I live in Birmingham and it has an active gay community...see a post just a few minutes ago from a gay man who bought a house in the Norwood neighborhood and is fixing it up....

As a generality, in Alabama's urban areas, you will have NO problems. A gay couple has lived across the street from my parents for years and fit into the neighborhood very well...

When you get into small towns, I really don't know frankly...

Melissa,

By and large, you will find as long as you don't try to the stir the pot, most people will leave you alone. You do your thing, they'll do theirs.

I am certain that you will find homosexual friends, if that is what your seeking or needing, just as you will find heterosexual friends.

The average Southerner will always be polite to you, in spite of differences you may have.

Default I don't feel threatened.

Coming from NY, my partner and I originally thought a move to the Bible Belt would not be a good idea. We spent a week visiting in Birmingham and liked it. We did spend many hours online finding out about the different neighborhoods. My brother also moved here 5 years ago.

We found enough progressive thinking to warrant a move, not to mention the career opportuni9ties. We are now buying a house in Norwood which has a growing gay community.

It’s been 4 months and we like it.

Just my thoughts.

Skellies

Dothan has a large gay population from what I have heard, I would say it is one of the larger ones in South AL, South GA and N. FL.

Are you intrested in buying a house or renting? As for country living there is plenty of land in Houston County, and neighoring Henry and Dale Counties and it would only be a 10-15 minute commute to Dothan.
