The heart of dixie is not meant to be anything but a geographical location.

As a Southerner whose Southern ancestors fought to preserve the Union, I like the designation of 'Dixie', which historically referred to the region South of the Mason-Dixon line.

I Have read on the Internet in one of theState . links that some agency is investing big $$$ to change the slogan to "Sweet Home Alabama"

I hadn't heard that but if they do make the change I will miss the Heart of Dixie slogan which, whenever I see it on a Bama plate, takes me back to the great year I spent there at Fort Rucker.
I saw life in Northern Virginia when I attend the Corps of Engineers School at Fort Belvoir, and in North Carolina where I attended jump school at Fort Bragg. When I was sent to Fort Rucker, at the end of my Army tour of duty I loved every minute, and it was this year there that I gained a lot more respect for The South and Southerners than I had going into the Army. Maybe I saw life differently there as I was an Officer, but Bama will always be close to my heart (which is why I started this thread)...and I always defend Alabama bar-b-q against all comers

I was born and raised 30 minutes west of Enterprise. It truly is a special place.

Great place is right. I have fond memories of Enterprise and the girl I dated there and almost married...almost because she was dating another, local guy and figured she would have to move to New England with me.
Another poster sent me a photo of the statue of the boll weevil in the Town Square. I recall a chopper pilot accused of trying to steal it with a hook (not sure how true that was as it allegedly happened before my time there). I have that photo in my miscellaneous photo file.
Thanks for the reply

I remember when I was in high school, in Kinston. There was times the weevle would be gone. I do not know if they still do that now or not.

Glad you both know the Enterprise area. We frequently get posters who ask about the area and we need members who can tell them what it is really like.
Mikey, post the pic if you have it..

Northerner newcomers are quite offended by everything of that sort, we have to remove it so they are contented. (Or at least put it so small you can't read it...) I always loved the slogan, you should embrace your heritage, not try to erase it.
