Thumbs up What happened to "The Heart of Dixie" slogan?

hey y'all. Long long ago when I lived in 'bama the auto license plates read "Heart of Dixie". What happened to that slogan? Did you folks get tired of it or did liberal peer pressure cause you to forego that slogan

It's still there (at least on my plates), just really small.

Excellent! Last time I saw a car with Alabama plates I didn't see the slogan, but since you said it is really small, that explains it. Never had bar b q like I did in Enterprise...must be a local recipe. Here in NC it's mostly vinegar based. Thanks for the reply.

There is a law from the 1950s requiring "Heart of Dixie" on all Alabama standard-issue license plates. I'm not sure about the vanity plates, though.
I know I'm speaking blasphemy, but I never really liked that slogan- it doesn't give us the "progressive" image this state needs. I've always thought that a standard plate celebrating Alabama's role in the space program (much like the "First to the Moon" vanity plates) would be much better.

Definitely something from the space program would be more progressive but i think that slogan is a holdover from another time. How about "Best Bar-B-Q"?

I sorta agree with james, but I don't think "stars fell on alabama" fits the bill either. I know Al, has been the home and birth place of many famous people, but I think they could have came up with something better than that. Just so everyone will know , you can go to your DMV office and obtaine a sticker, with a price of course, that will cover the current slogan with "Heart Of Dixie" at least think it's still availible, there are also several different plates you can buy with other themes such as wildlife plates and school system plate with the procedees going to each organization. I personally think they should make a plate notorizing the Apollo Program. They did offer a plate to raise money to restore the Saturn V rocket at the Alabama Space&Rocket Center, now that the work is done , I'm not sure if its availible now.

All good responses. I will just have to look closer next time I see a car with Alabama plates driving here in NC. Just seems like anything with the Confederate battle flag or the word Dixie upsets a lot of people...not me as I live and let live...and I relocated down from New England 10 years ago. My ancestors were still in Europe when the American Civil War took place so I have no opinions about or baggage regarding that time, and I consider myself an American first. In NC one of our slogans is "First in Flight". Maybe yours should be "First in Space". That would look nice on your plates.

I am TOTALLY getting one of the "First to the Moon" plates. It is still available. My husband got one. I think the money still goes to keep the Space and Rocket Center running.

Default No More "Dixie"

Definately....get rid of "Heart of Dixie"!!
I never understood the Stars thing either or the awful New Hamphsire "live Free or die".
Alabama has really improved its image over the last decade and I think it deserves a nicer license plate!!

Well there's that old song "Stars Fell on Alabama", which isn't really much about Alabama but I guess very few songs are.
