Smile Canoeing near Lake Guntersville

Does anyone know of a place to put a canoe up river in Town Creek near Lake Guntersville State Park an paddle back to the lake? I have a group staying at the lodge in May and we may canoe in the area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you are thinking of running white water, see Alabama Whitewater Paddling Guide, and look for "Town, lower" in the Run Index. If you are thinking about paddling the lake backwaters of Town Creek, the only put-in access I know of is the take-out described in the whitewater run. It's been a long time since I've been there but it used to be a 1/2 mile or more carry down a washed out forest road and then through the woods. The Birmingham Canoe Club meets monthly and I'm sure they would be glad to help. They are at Birmingham Canoe Club. No matter what you end up doing, be sure to check out High Falls on Town Creek. See picture at alabamawhitewater.com. Good luck. It's a beautiful area.

You might also want to check with the Lodge, if there is such a place I would think they could tell you. Just a thought
