Hello,

My husband may be accepting a job in Prattville. We currently live in Southaven, MS which is a suburb of Memphis. We don't know much about the area other than what we have researched online. We are trying to narrow down where we want to live.

We have looked online at Prattville, Millbrook, Marbury, and Holtville schools. Schools are our biggest deciding factor. We have a son going in to 7th grade who is mild Aspergers. He struggles socially to fit in and make friends. He did band in 6th grade at the public school until we moved him to a small private school because of bullying. So a band (not over the top competitive) would be ideal for him again. We also have a daughter going in to 5th grade who does competitive cheer. She is very social and continuing cheer would be a must for her. The public schools here are fairly large, so a smaller school is very appealing to us.

We would like to live in a family friendly subdivision with 1/2- 1 acre lots. Our budget is $250,000-$300,000. We want to keep the commute for my husband under 30 minutes to Prattville. We would like a 4 bedroom/ 3 bathroom home. A pool would be a plus! We are hoping to not have the expense of private schools and that we can find something to meet each of our children's unique needs.

Would love to hear from others about the areas, schools, and personal experiences.

Thanks for your time!

Prattville is a very good school. It is large, but its a town that feeds off of its high school. They do get national exposure for their sports, but academically, I believe Prattville is usually up to good standards. Your children will not have any problems finding friends there. Its enrollment is large.

However, to follow up on Wetumpkaboy's post, you also may want to think about Millbrook, not too far off the Highway 14 corridor.

While I lived there for a little more than a year before I had to move back to Montgomery(City Boy who experienced culture-or lack thereof-shock), I think I can give Millbrook an overall positive for the housing and crime. Also, P'Ville has more people, and usually being known well in a smaller community works for you rather than vice versa. JMHO.
