Also, as far as Oxford. What is considered the best school district and area to live? ![]() |

If you are looking for good public schools in the area, then unfortunately Anniston is not an option. Golden Springs (Anniston) is a very nice area, and conveniently located next to the new Oxford Exchange (Target, Home Depot, etc), but you would more than likely send your children to private schools ( www.donohoschool.com or www.faithchristian.info) if you moved there. There are many nice places to live in Oxford, and the schools are all considered to be good. ( [www.oxford.k12.al.us ) Oxford is about to open a brand new library that is supposed to be great.
The local Chamber of commerce has links to a lot of local resources. http://www.calhounchamber.com Hope this helps! |

One more thing, I read some of your other posts and now realize that elementary schools are very important to you. Check out the website www.greatschools.net and type in some of the areas you are considering. I read a reply that you received and someone highly recommended Leeds schools. I checked and they received a 3 out of 10 whereas the Oxford elementary school I checked received an 8 out of 10. The website defines all the criteria. While I do think things are looking up for Leeds, if your daughter is starting schools in the fall, you need something that is exceptional already. My son starts next year as well, and this decision is something I've been struggling with for the past year.

I lived in Anniston pretty much my whole life (well, Birmingham for a few years after college, but it seemed as if I was always in Anniston visiting friends and family). Oxford is by far probably more "appealing" because of the school system, but you can find some great houses in great neighborhoods in Anniston for less than in Oxford...which would mean you'd save money and send the kids to private school like Donoho.
Check out Glenwood Terrace and Hillyer High Road areas. Older homes, but very large and nice and going for cheap these days. |
