Seeking town outside Fairhope that's cheaper (Mobile, Bay Minette: houses, rent, lease)

Please suggest a town/village/city outside Fairhope--but so close as possible--that would be further from the water and hurricane damage, but close enough that I could run over there to, say, pick up groceries. I want to find a small house that is cheaper than Fairhope with the safety of Fairhope, if possible, and away from the possibility of hurricane damage.

Look in Magnolia Springs, Foley, Summerdale, or Robertsdale.

I know you are looking for a retirement area. There is Malbis, Loxley, Robertsdale, Silverhill and Summerdale.

I love Magnolia Springs because of the river and some of the older homes. Foley is closer to the gulf than the others, but didn't have any major damage that I am aware of during Ivan. . Summerdale is close to Foley and not that far from Fairhope. Robertsdale has grocery stores and other little stores but the closest Walmart is in Foley which is not that far away.

Are you looking to buy or rent? What is your general price range.

I recommend looking along Hwy 98 between Foley and Point Clear (it will run through Magnolia Springs). Much of that area is farmland that is being converted to new subdivisions. There are a few horse ranches too, very pretty area. Pretty much all of Baldwin County is very safe, except maybe a small section Bay Minette, but thats at the north end of the county.

I am looking to buy, thanks for asking. Am having a heck of a time finding something not too expensive ($150K--and, with luck, under $120K) to live in. It is just me, and want a small bungalow with tiny land around it to grow veggies on. Safe area a must.
Very impressive that Fairhope is so safe many still don't lock their doors. And the fact that many Yankees are moving into that area is a plus, also. It is hard to be a true Chicago personality in the midst of religious Southerners--trust me on that one.
PLUS, I am interested in buying small cottages, fixing them up and selling them. This looks promising. Any suggestions?
And, yes, I am old (60's) but certainly not dead...and looking for a guy to hook up with. Some areas I have looked at are so married that I deleted them from my list.

I don't think you will have a problem with religion in that area. Most ppl will invite you to their church, but all you have to do is reply with a nice 'Thank you, but I already have a church' or something along those lines, and they don't push it. It is just the southern way.
As far as unmarried men, they may not live in your town, but you are not that far from another town. I know several 'our' age who live in that area, even Mobile is not that far away.

There are houses in your price range in most areas. My sister lives in Summerdale and they don't lock their doors either.

Not locking your doors--after living in two major crimeridden metros like Chicago and Houston--sounds FANTASTIC! Hard to believe that there are still cool areas that you don't have to lock your door in...wonderful! I would LOVE that...gee..that means I can wear my big diamond again, too.
Do you know that if you live in Chicago--and are smart--you take off all important jewelry when in the city? I was robbed there twice in 14 years, and met countless women over 40 a couple years ago (when I was there for a year) that had lost their diamonds and other jewels to robbers when INNERCITY Chicago. The crime rate alone keeps me from moving back to a city that, ordinarily, I would just love (great food, architecture, museums, etc.). No can do anymore.

Well, YOU want to move your personality to The South as do numbers of others. Yes it is overrun by Southerners and their way of live and they are bound and determined to stay there and keep it their way. How dare they?

The idea of flipping houses is not new. Considering the changes in Baldwin County over the last few years, the influx of Thyssen and Boeing which you can already feel - you are about five years behind the power curve.

I am a single senior and I can understand as I think there are maybe 3 single senior men in my town and many more single senior women. That being said I have had no problem getting dates who live in other nearby towns even as far away as B'ham.
