(Roll Tide people can close their ears. )

What is the appropriate response when someone hails you with "War Eagle"? Just moved to Tiger country and so I was appropriately wearing orange the other Saturday as I went about town. I went to check out, and the checker greeted me with the above expression. Whatever I said must not have been the right response, because she looked at me in sympathy and said, "You must not be from around here." Being new to this fair state, I am curious what I *should* have answered back. (And yes, I can already imagine that there are Alabama fans who would love to answer something more "red" to that question. So in that case--do you also greet people by saying "Roll Tide"? And if so, what is the expected response to that?)

until you become a fan of either It's best to not respond .. if you had said " war eagle " back at them they would have then asked how you felt about the team this year .. not good if you do not know ....

I don't think it will be much of an issue based on Auburns performance on the gridiron so far!

We say "Roll Tide" so yes, "War Eagle" would have been appropriate. Anybody sees anybody in an Alabama shirt, they don't say "Go Alabama", they say, "Roll Tide".

True fans don't care. We lost to Ole Miss and we still say it.

I know "true fans who are very upset with Auburns play this year- I'm a "true Dawg" fan, and I care when we lose. Besides, Auburn didn't lose to Ole Miss- Bama did!

I'm not a die hard Auburn fan, but if I had to choose a team in the SEC, it'd be Auburn over Georgia or Alabama. (My family is split between Auburn and Alabama fanatics)

Any time I see someone wearing anything with Auburn on it, particularly when I'm out of Alabama or out of the region, I'll say "War Eagle"! I got a kick out of it when I found a fan in San Francisco.
