I'm starting work in downtown Birmingham in June, but my girlfriend may be getting a job in downtown Montgomery. Are there nice places to live in between that have do-able commutes?

Clanton and Calera are good choices. Both growing towns with good neighborhoods and government.

Calera has some very nice and affordable homes. There is an apartment complex called Kensington Manor in Calera. Also if you are looking to purchase a home, there are some very affordable homes with most builders willing to pay most or all closing costs.

I'd consider Montevallo.

Thorsby is good. There are a lot of new very upscale homes being built right off the interstate and I guess that would mean there will soon be good shopping.

I live in Calera... It's about a 45 minute commute to downtown Birmingham and to Montgomery - and you have a LOT of housing to choose from as well as some new apartment complexes. I can send information on any of this if you'd like...
