The biggest thing for me to get use to here is that not everyone drinks beer or alcohol!!!! Up North it's such common courtesy when offering someone a beverage to include beer or wine as part of the choices!! LOL
|
Welcome to the bible belt. Pretty common to offer alcohol in FL too. Even being in a dry city, I make sure I have something for everyone.

You all are mean if someone wants to state their own opinions of how they feel about this place then they have every right to do so. After all this is a thread titled unhappy in Alabama so if people want to get on this thread and vent to each then you pro Alabama people need to find somewhere else bc it seems all you are doing is harrassing poor people who are trying to find others that have that in common. If you don't why are you here? You all have personally attacked Heathanoah in ways that seem to me to be very threatening and just plain unnecessary. I am so sorry that you came here for support and you all have been insulted in every way possible. If anyone on here states that they don't like this place then this forum alone would explain why. These people are seriously hurtful. This poor person Heathanoah is being made to seem like the ultimate evil just because she doesn't like it here and yes I have read all of this stream of crap. Shame on all of you. Go to another blog seriously and get on with your lives. Can you just not stand that there are people that hate this place? What is your problem? My God! I wanted to enter this blog bc I am also unhappy here and I was relieved to see that I wasn't the only one but since I have read all of these just plain mean responses to the people who aren't happy here I am kinda scares to get started. I alsao live in Southside in a really nice area but it is over run with parties and loud music. I am over all of that but if you wanna party 24/7 then I would suggest living here but personally I have been here 3 years and not met one single true person and I have been happy all over the world includuding several countries and 20 states. I have never encountered such racism and rude people as I have here. But you know let me restate that bc they are nice to your face and talk about you as soon as you leave. I just stay away from all the social chaos and hope to move soon. I as well have been gay bashed here and I wasn't showing any PDA. Someone down the road heard about a lesbian couple and attacked me at my home. They wanted me to move so I did in fear of my life. Just turn on the news at night. Murders even in the nicest neighborhoods take place here and furthermore the statistics don't lie. This is one of the top ten crime ridden cities in America. Puh!

Sorry bhamblues, but I didn't say anything bad about heathanoah either. I genuinely feel sorry for her. If my significant other had been attack on my own porch, I would probably hate where I live too.

You are sweet for sticking up for me! Maybe we can be friends in REAL life! That is so crazy that you were gay-bashed too....what happened?! Maybe you should email me?! I'd love to hear more about your story and it's nice to know that someone else out there understands what I am going through. Do you have a dog? We should walk together! Hit me up!

I am just in here by accident.
I have never been to the south. But I have worked with tourists from all over the world.
When tour groups would come in from the American South, we were happy because we knew that they would all be very nice.

I agree with MonaLisa and rnc -- I don't feel that I said anything bad about the OP. I quite frankly don't care about the sexual orientation of my friends. Some are married, some single. As far as the single ones, I could care less about their sexual orientation. I am assuming that the married ones are heterosexual! When I first moved to Huntsville, several of my now closest friends apparently wondered fleetingly if I was gay. It didn't keep them from getting to know me better!! I am in fact a widow who just doesn't care about the hassle of trying to meet another partner. But I definitely do not feel that I said anything rude to the OP.

So sorry to hear about that. Sometimes I forget how fortunate we are to live where we have no problems. Our neighborhood is probably 20% gay couples too (and known for it) so the straight people who move here expect it and are accepting. But I know to stay away from rural/small towns most anywhere in this country. Luckily I prefer urban living!

Sorry. But you can't simply come on this forum, and whine about how unfriendly everybody is in Alabama, dump on everything about the place, and not expect some kind of rebuttal. There are plenty of people on this forum who moved to Birmingham and Alabama and have had totally opposite experiences from the OP.
And, please, regale us with your definition of a "true" person. You realize, by extension, that with that wording you accuse all people of living here to be hypocrites--which is definitely not the case. What's more, I've lived all over, too, and seen racism far more virulent than any I've seen here. Heck, when I lived in San Diego, I was mugged by a Latino, and had a black guy call me a cracker in a convenience store. Does that mean San Diego is a terrible place? Far from it. Oh, and working in an industry that has more than its share of gays and lesbians, I listened to a lot of the crap that they had to put up with in Chicago. Living here in Birmingham, the atmosphere is relatively benign--and that's coming from some gay friends I have who moved here from San Francisco. They had no idea what to expect when they moved here and were pretty amazed at what they found.
So again, if you're negative about a place, it will be negative right back at you. And if you don't like the place, then just move. Because Delta is ready when you are.
