I'm pretty comfortable in my beliefs, too. And my statement above stands. In towns where blacks are the majority (e.g., Albany), they DO oppress and discriminate. It's apparently human nature; you may claim blacks are above human nature, but you're blatantly wrong. You have a nice day too, honey.

Just wanted to add on--of course blacks can discrimminate. It is the oppression part that you seem to be confused about. Oppression is an institutional act, and doesn't really have much to do with being in the majority. Africa had institutionalized apartheid for quite some time, with the majority population not being white.

This topic seems to have drifted. A thread like this should be answered in a couple posts, not drug out to three pages.

Agreed, Frankie117
What is or isn't racism isn't the question.
Anyone who wants to discuss racism in general, there is a P&OT forum.

in Georgia? I thought Georgia had the best race relations in the South. I mean I know that race relations in the Southwestern part of Georgia have gotten bad, particularly in the last 10 or 20 years, but overall I mean Georgia was the center of the Civil Rights movement.

I don't live in Dothan but live about an hour away and can say without a shadow of a doubt that you will be safe and have nothing to fear. As with any city, of course there is crime in Dothan but I don't believe it has anything to do with race, if you are a victim of a crime you will most likely be at the wrong place at the wrong time rather than it be because of the color of your skin. They have great healthcare in Dothan and I can assure you that you will get quality care without having to worry about your safety. You can rest easy and concentrate on your surgery and recovery and not worry about being attacked for the color of your skin, good luck with your surgery and we'll be praying for you.

First of all for all the people who think racism doesn't exist anymore you are living in a state of denial. Its just not politically correct to be an open racist anymore. And for people who have never experienced racism you can't discount someone who has. Secondly you won't have any more problem with racism in Alabama than you do in Illinois unless you move to some really small town where you are less than 5% of the population, Dothan does not fit this criteria. And yes of course blacks can be prejudice and discriminate against whites, but I agree whites have never been "oppressed." And oppression is a HUGE difference from someone being racist or prejudice. We like to throw this reverse racism thing out here all the time but don't compare it to what happened in the past where there was state sponsored racism, church sponsored racism, where very few people spoke out against it. I don't think any whites are being hung and killed in Albany for looking at a black woman or some other lame reason. Many blacks or their parents who live in the Midwest were born in the South are now returning back and that is what they remember of their home so don't try to make somebody look like an idiot cause they ask a simple question about race, if you have experienced what they have it is a valid question.
