Default Safe area's for Summer housing only.

My wife and i are lucky that we may be able to start spending 3months a year near Smith Lake. My concern is having an empty house the rest of the year. This seems to be somewhat common up onthe lake but what about area's like Curry, Parrish, Cordova, and the area north of Jasper. Does anyone use a Home watch service or have any thoughts about this. I realize there are safer area's in every town but where we stayed last year there was alot of unoccupied house's. I did not talk to anyone about it but now i wish i did.
