Cousin says Fairhope is just a tiny strip mall, and the activity in that area is in Mobile. She is urging me to forget Fairhope or the Baldwin County area, and move to Mobile instead as it is the "heart" of what's happening. I am guessing (altho did not ask) she means Midtown?
I am retired, 60ish, Caucasian female and very active. Plan to start a biz doing something? Would you say Mobile, too? I was quite surprised by her reaction from what I have read, but she knows the area well and I don't know anything other than all the propaganda I've read. |

Baldwin County is growing very fast, especially the Spanish Fort area. Before too long you'll be able to find nearly everything in Spanish Fort-Malbis that you can find in Mobile, except the older historic buildings.

The biggest difference is going to be crime. Fairhope is small and there isn't a lot of crime. Fairhope has kept out WalMart in order to keep the downtown alive. A lot of retired folks and artsy ppl. Some ppl still don't lock their doors.
Mobile is MUCH larger and the crime is bad. Not that there is crime everywhere in Mobile, but I have a good friend who lives in the historic district in Mobile and he just told me yesterday, he heard gunshots the other night near his apt. Don't get me wrong, I love Mobile, but it is all in what you are looking for in a place to live. Go for a visit.. check out both areas.

Wow...I am surprised at the vote for the city of Mobile, actually, after all the hype I read about Baldwin County, but I cannot get there just yet. I defer to your judgment...Mobile it is!

TootsieWootsie, I guess it really depends on what you mean by "very active". What kind of things do you like to do?

Mobile is my hometown but if I were to move back to S. AL I would live in Baldwin county. unless I won the lottery and could buy my favorite house on Gov't blvd.
plus the traffic is horrible especially Airport Blvd.
