We just moved to Holly Pond in eastern Cullman County from Trussville and we love it here!! Holly Pond is very small, and very laid back. Cullman has lots to offer, too. Shopping, industry, recreation is all found here in Cullman County. And right next door is Marshall County. We actually shop at Walmart in Arab because it is closer to our home than Cullman. Boaz has great Outlet Mall shopping. And not too far, in Scottsboro, is the Unclaimed Baggage Center where you will find all kinds of great deals! We also spend a lot of time at Lake Guntersville. There is a really fun waterpark in Blountsville in Blount County called Spring Valley Beach. There really is so much to do in this part of the state. Especially once you get out of the the bigger cities like Birmingham and Huntsville.
Trussville was really great when we moved there, but has really become overcrowded in the last couple of years. Birmingham is creeping up on Trussville FAST! They do have wonderful schools there, but it is loosing it's small town charm thanks to all the growth and development.

As I posted on another thread about small towns
If you are looking for a slow paced commuity and all I personally recomend Alexandria AL, crime is virtualy non existant it is a small community where everyone knows everyone, the type of community where everyone meets at the local huddle house every morning for breakfast and waves as you drive down the street. also property prices are currently low, but due to bypasses going through the bigger cities around us they are going to quickly rise and as far as retirement goes we have TONS of golf courses, nearby lakes/dams, High School sports, and a few pool halls. all in all a nice place to live not alot of teenagers running around they normally head to oxford for the malls etc... and oxford is roughly 15miles away. as far as medical goes we have 4 hospitals within a 20 mile radius one of them (regional medical center) is a 5 star rater heart center which is always a plus if your worried about old age. there is also convieniently located stores such as wal-mart (10min away) dollar general (2min or less) freds (2min or less) FoodLand grociery store (5 or less min away) and a few fuel stations. also being a farm type community there is a dairy where you can buy fresh home made milk, butter, cheese (many types to name), and ice creme. and if you have older family members or you worry about the distant future there are many retirement homes and programs designed for the elderly such as meels-on-wheels wich for like 3 bucks you get a hot meal from the local hospital tailored to your diet. and as far as jobs there are many farms a military base lots of industry like steel mills an army repair facility for tanks and etc plus typical hobs for small cities garages, grocery stores, fast food etc. and of course there is the Talladega Super speedway about 30min away where nascar and busch series races are held. Oh and being a large religious community (tons of churches) there is no alcohol sold on sunday, hope this helps.
To add to this for you the high school elementry school and middle school are all within walking distance with no busy streets nearby large fields to play in and the school system is known for sports and academic excellence please do not take this post as an example of this academic excellence I speak of I did go to these school but am typeing this in a hury : ) dont forget about the family things to do museum's, public pools, boy scouts, biurmingham zoo/macwayne science center (about an hour away) and atlanta is only like an hour and a half away so if you travel alot you have a major airport somewhat close and the small birmingham airport nearby to
just so you know the views of this city come from an 18yr old resident of the city

Hi there. My family and I are looking around for somewhere else to live. We are currently in Northern California, and like so many others, have decided that we want a more affordable place to live. We have 2 kids that, while they are only 9 and 13 now, will eventually be going to college. Living here there's no way we could pay for that!
Some of our main concerns are of course good schools and low crime. I know you can find those in many areas, but being a CA girl I'm used to dealing with the uncertainty of earthquakes, but not tornados and hurricanes. Can anyone fill me in on how those things affect the areas that you've mentioned here? Also, do you get any snow?
Thanks

Move to Enterprise, AL
Hey, I couldn't help but notice that no one mentioned Enterprise, AL as an option. Enterprise, AL is an absolutely great place to live. There is already so many things to do here. However, there are great plans underway for the city right now. George Jones, Kix Brooks (Of Brooks and Dunn), Tracy Lawrence and Lori Morgan and a few other un-mentioned celebrities have partnered with Ronnie Gilley Properties of Enterprise, AL. Groundbreaking has already begun for some upscale neighborhoods as well as cheaper neighborhoods. Foremost is The Legends. This is owned and funded by George Jones himself. It will include several estate sized lots which will have manor style homes placed on them. This will also include the George Jones' home in Enterprise where he will spend 6 months out of the year. Also, there is Mayberry Place owned by Trace Lawrence. This will feel like a town of its own with beautiful parks. It will also have a retail plaza included. This subdivision is already underway. Next, there is Brookwook named after Kix Brooks of Brooks and Dunn. This community is almost completed. There will also be a restaurant established called Possum Holler named after yours truly, George Jones. This will be an entertaiment based restaurant which will be decorated with memorabilia from the career of ole' possum. There will be a stage for live performances. There are many other plans underway. Of course we have many of the large retail chains in our town. We have Wal-Mart, Peebles, Office Depot, Mellow Mushroom, just to mention a few. We are only 90 miles from world famous Panama City Beach. You can live close to all of that excitement without living in the hustle and bustle. Enterprise is a city on the move with that same small town feel. If you are worried about jobs, there is no need. There are many industries surrounding our nearby military base. Only a five minute drive from Enterprise. Fort Rucker is the largest aviation training base in the world. There are many technical jobs surrounding the area. A few to look consider would be Sikorsky and Army Fleet Support. Also, HSAA has made Enterprise their corporate headquarters in the United States. Some websites that will have plenty of information regarding Enterprise:
