Southlander is sooo right, if at all possible, dont move the kid. Let him finish highschool where he is. I have had 2 friends whose boys were being looked at, move right before senior year, and it was a disaster....bad enough trying to make friends and feel part of a highschool you only have one year left in when you get there, but with sports being so important, its a double obstacle.
Yes, it is true in the South there are many small towns where EVERYBODY goes to the Fri. night football games! I raised 2 boys in Southeast Alabama and the whole town turned out every Friday night, it was GREAT. Everybody knew everybody else....for a few short years, we gave our kids a "Mulberry " existence. Sometimes these little southern towns may be lacking in amenities people think that they need, but if you can look beyond that, you can discover some of the greatest places...the south is full of gems. Real small towns with some of the best, most down to earth people youll ever meet.
Hope it all works out for your family, and that you can reconsider if possible, moving on after graduation. Time does go by so fast, after all........

Thanks for posting. I should had been more clear. He will just be a junior this year. My husband is having to work in New Orleans, but I was not wanting to move there. I just don't like the atmosphere in New Orleans, especially for my kids. We grew up in a rural area, very small town. Now the town is getting to be an annex of Atlanta. We have been wanting to move, but decided to wait for our kids to finish school, because we like the school so much. But now we are being redistricted to a new school and I'm not really crazy about the area. I was thinking this might be a good time to go forward with our plans, since my kids are having to change schools anyway.

Well, Cat, in that case I would move RIGHT NOW...well, as soon as school is out. If he's a junior, he'll have time to get on a team and be noticed by the big schools. And because Alabama does NOT have Hope Scholarships, competition is a little less fierce for spaces in the freshman classes at Alabama and Auburn. But if he wants to go to a Georgia school...wow, watch out for that out of state tuition!
Look for the Alabama High School Sports Association Web site and find the football rankings for the past year. Alabama schools are divided according to size, with 6A the biggest and 1A the smallest. You'll want him to be at a 6A or 5A school, with a good coach. You might try the forums at www dot al dot com...there are forums specifically for high school sports...to get opinions. And also check the rosters of players at Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Troy and U of North Alabama to see what high schools they are coming from. Troy and UNA are small schools but are very good and are known for fielding strong football teams. Good luck girl, and git movin'!

I'll second that, Southlander. I've never seen a state more into football than Alabama, and you pegged the options.

There are some traditionally strong high school teams in the south Alabama area, and this might put your husband close enough to get home in time for the ballgames on Friday nights. Good luck.

It sounds like Alabama loves football. We love football ! Would you recommend any high schools in south Alabama? There's some folks over in Louisiana that are recommending John Curtis Christian School, I've never heard of them, but New Orleans is just not the kind of atmosphere I want my kids to be in at this time in their life. I'm not real familiar with Mississippi, but Alabama is right next door to ALL my family in Georgia. This makes Alabama at the top of our list.
Thanks for all yall's information !

Foley, Daphne, Fairhope, and UMS-Wright all come to mind.
