I don't know about me.. I talk pretty California-like but... my eldest daughter has started pronouncing certain words with REALLY long vowel sounds "thaaaaat" and "baaath". This surprised me because I've met plenty of people who were born in Huntsville that don't at all sound Southern to me, just by virtue of living in Huntsville and having non-Southern parents.
People have told me that it will depend on her teachers as to whether she develops a twang or not. If she has Southern teachers or not. She does have a Southern teacher right now. I have started teaching my kids to say Sir and Ma'am though. When in Rome... |

![]() I wonder if my friends think I'm strange when I say "I'm getting ready to go to the store" or I'm leaving in a few minutes to go to the grocery store" ![]() ![]() I LOVE the way everyone talks down here though ![]() |

It's the g on the end of a word that southerners have a hard time with. If you were to say "I'm gettin' ready" or "I'm leavin' in a few minutes", I probably wouldn't even notice.

I saw a movie about the history of language a couple of times. I believe that leaving off the "g" is Scottish.
