how is Daleville?
My husband is relocating and we are thinking about renting in Daleville. How is the city and the schools? Is there much to do? Also, I dont want to step on no one toes but what is the ratio like in the middle and high schools? ( blk to white) We are not racist people i am from the south and grew up in a mixed diversity but my kids are growing up north in a all white population. By all means they are not racist either i just dont know how they are going to handle a big mixed diversity of people. i grew up in a hard town where both sides were harsh and i dont want that for my kids. how are the teachers and the academics? Are there any extracurricular Activities for the kids in the schools? Thanks for any advice.

If you are looking for a 99% white school, Kinston schools would be the school of choice. Kinston is a Coffee County school. I graduated high school in Kinston and it has not changed much at all.
If you are wanting a bigger town, I would go to Enterprise. My wife graduated from Enterprise and it is a little more diverse, but not a 50/50 split on ratio.
My honest opinion, Daleville does nothing for me.

Daleville is conveniently located between Dothan and Enterprise - the only thing about the schools there is that kids come and go quite a bit (because of Ft. Rucker), and its hard for anyone to have friends with them for the entire time in the schools.
Daleville is mostly restaurants (of each and every ethnic variety), and there isn't a whole lot else. Most of the town's historic district was completely destroyed in a tornado quite some time ago, so you won't see any 'standard' downtown of historic businesses and such, the typical railroad that most Southern towns rely on sits in a ditch and does nothing for Daleville. The town basically survives off Ft. Rucker - without it the town wouldn't be much of anything.
I advise a visit to the town before finalizing a move.

I can't give you info about Alabama, but I wanted to tell you how much I admire you. What a beautiful spirit you have! I'm certain you are giving your children wonderful models while they are forming their values. Good for you!

Daleville is pretty boring and run down. About ten miles away is Enterprise Alabama. There are no sidewalks to walk. But the city and the schools are really terrific. Most
people are Christians. There are many people that live here for a short time while their
loves ones train at Fort Rucker. The people here are kind and friendly. It is growing.
We are about one and a half hours from Panama city Florida or Montgomery Alabama.
We are a little more than 3 hours from Atlanta Georgia. Dothan is about 20 minutes away and is slightly bigger and has malls and theaters and restaurants. I really have enjoyed Enterprise since moving here from Ann Arbor Michigan

I was born in Enterprise and raised about 25 miles west of Enterprise. I have to agree. Enterprise is growing and is really a nice place to live.

I would choose either Dothan or Enterprise. The first time we were in Daleville was in the late '80s and each time we've gone back it seems as though there is less and less commercial development. It actually saddens me when we drive through it.

Relocating to Daleville Alabama
Daleville is literally right outside of the Fort Rucker Daleville gate located in Dale County. The city hosts primarily fast food joints to accommodate the military lunch crowd (Taco Bell, McDonalds, the newest = Bojangles, Pizza Hut, Subway) you will also find a few Mexican & Korean eateries, Trifecta (good pizza & subs), 2 steak houses (side by side) and a few BBQ joints. Daleville is relatively small and country like. As mentioned above Fort Rucker seems to keep it afloat. It is the typical town you would find right outside of the gate - Run down looking and Pawn Shops. It truely makes me sad because in my honest opinion I think it would be a nice little town. Recently, there has been an increase in the independent business owner - which I hope the community supports. The are many TDY units for rent and apartment complexes and townhomes that are mostly military. The schools are rather small compared to Enterprise or Dothan. There are several Flight / Army stores. In addition the Daily Perk - which is open on Sundays. I work in Daleville and have come to enjoy the little city.
Enterprise is a short distance away and offers more dining and food choices.
Will you be relocating because of the military? When do you arrive?
Good Luck and let me know if you would like any more information.

I grew up in Daleville and it was wonderful. Vietnam was going full blast and every trainee in the Huey helicopter came to Ft. Rucker for training. My dad was an instructor. Most of my friends dads were instructors as well. We were the stayers. Others kids came and went. It was good then. My dad was killed in 1971. Now it is a different world everywhere and I would say that Daleville High School is probably like any other. So you should expect simular problems as you see in any other school. From 1963 to 1972 I had an education that was unbelievable. I had to study hard to make the grade in Daleville. At the next high school I attended, I never cracked a book and made the A-B Honor roll. The learning was good in Alabama. From my point of view, this is what is important even if the black to white ratio is lop-sided. The Ole USA consists of many colors and it sounds like you have taught your children this. They will do fine in Daleville. )
