Thanks, Keeper. Your posts here have been of help to us as we considered, and then settled in the area. We are not affiliated with a church - so our assimilation may take longer I guess. That's OK. We are patient. One thing I noticed in looking at volunteer opportunities was many many listings for Guntersville - nothing for Albertville. Somebody needs to stir some worms here and start pitching in - for a town with so many apparent "problems", we should be stepping up instead of complaining. I'm ready - just have to find some opportunities.
Two more rooms to paint the baseboards, install the range hood, and we are moving in! Looking forward to it.

I know exactly how you feel. If you would like to meet for lunch let me know. Maybe I can get a couple of other folks to meet with us. The Marshall county lunch bunch...

Call RSVP.. they have a list of volunteer opportunities for the whole area not just Guntersville. You can become a reading buddy.. that is an hour a week. They are always advertising in the paper for CAJA (I think that is it) to be an advocate for children.

Im moving on Mon to Albertville, I now live in Orlando, Florida and will be renting a apt. for 2 months which was very hard to find a place to rent for just a month or two while looking for a house to buy. We will be looking around all of Marshall county, Union Grove, Grant, Arab, New Hope, among others. We are a young couple buying our first home with a 4 yr old son, any suggestions? Ive looked for days and days and hundreds of homes, but we dont want to pick a home over internet, we want to walk through and get that "feeling" of the one we want. So anyone please feel free to offer any suggestions on the area Ive never been to Alabama, his job is in Albertville is the reason for the move.. Thanks

Welcome to the FL bunch!!!

While Arab and Union Grove aren't that far from Albertville it is still at least a 30-40 min drive.. Guntersville might be a better option since it is next door to Albertville. I don't know how familiar you are with the weather up here but it does snow occasionally but Ice on the roads is a bigger problem especially on bridges and going up/down the mountain. There are some newer homes in Albertville. Personally.. my own opinion is I would not buy near the huge power lines that are in one part of Albertville.

I can tell you anything you want to know about Arab and it is a great place to live if you don't mind a small town. The 2nd best rated schools in all of AL. You can buy a really nice home here for 100K and up depending on what you want in a house. It is a very safe here.

There are no malls unless you go down to H'ville. I believe there is a movie theater in Boaz otherwise you go to Huntsville. You also have to go to Huntsville to go to Target, Ross, Marshall and Publix.

What else do you want to know?

notime362 will become famous soon enough
Most ot ther bigger realtors will put you up in one of their rental properties while you are looking. I dealt with a realtor if you want their name send me a DM.. Also ask for a home and area, where they would be comfortable in....

I just wanted to say "welcome" to all of you newcomers to Sand Mountain. I have many relatives who live up there, and it is a beautiful place.
