Fuel prices are already bad enough, why encourage more driving by building an additional freeway?

It would help cut out some my miles for those not needing to pass through Mongtomery and maybe even help ease I65 traffic.

That's a lot of private land that would have to be purchased and probably years of lawsuits from landowners. This project would probably take decades.

In the articles I have read on it, many govt officials felt the only way the funds could be secured is through a toll road.

Many felt govt funding is a --LONG--way off.

The Huntsville Times called it a "road to nowhere", noting that the State has more pressing needs (like roads it can't even build now).

As for poverty, being on a highway doesn't guarantee economic development - look at all the poor towns on the interstates...

Yeah, but when a big car plant like Volkswagen or Mercedes comes in it improves the likelyhood of getting spinoff manufacturing to an area. Have you been to Tuscaloosa lately?
