Hi...i had the pleasure of visiting your state & the lake. My family had a great time. What is the history of this lake? I spoke with a few people & they informed me that this area was intentionally flooded to make the lake & that there are houses still in the lake, under water Is this true? Whats it like to live on the lake?

Some parts of the lake are 400' deep. Towns, bridges, forests all lay beneath its crystal clear waters. They claim its the third cleanest lake in the US. It has over 500 miles of shoreline and is over 21,000 acres in size. Fishing is great. They have hybrid stripe bass that are 40-60 lbs in size. They have bass tournaments on it all the time. Last February one was televised on ESPN. Part of the lake is in the William Bankhead National Forest. Its very quiet and isolated. Land prices are getting up there, but compared to other parts of the country they're pretty cheap. Moderator cut: advertising Bill Last edited by markablue; 06-08-2007 at 06:00 AM. |

I doubt you could find any as the lake was created over 50 years ago. Basically all you would see would be photos of very rugged land, with lots hills and deep valleys covered in trees.
One of the interesting things is to get a map of the lake that does indeed show the submerged objects such as houses, churches, stores....you will also see on the map where roads simply run into the water....most of which are long since overgrown now.... |
