Default Florence, AL Employment market.

I've heard that jobs are scarce in Florence, AL. Is this true? I plan on going back to college there and will need a part time job while I'm there. I'm a Administrative Assistant.

It was. They've seen nearly 10% unemployment until recently. There have been some good jobs recruited to the area to help fill the gap. Part time jobs should be around; you might try applying at the new Robert Trent Jones golf course and hotel (www.rtjgolf.com and click on Florence, or www.marriottshoals.com) (broken link). They stay very busy.

Hi there, I live in Muscle Shoals, across the river from Florence. I have worked in Florence for the last 4 years, and I can tell you the jobs are scarce. If you are planning on attending UNA, you will love the area. I do love it here, but I am planning on moving towards UAB.
Its a great place to raise kids, and for the most part its quiet with lower crime than most bigger cities, except in Sheffield.
Depending on what you want to do you can find A Job, maybe not a great paying one but you can get by, which is what most of us do here. The cost of living has slightly gone up the last couple of years but not too bad, so you can justify making a little less, while paying less rent.
you can check out www.timedaily.com (broken link) for the local classifieds for jobs, homes and what not. Good Luck!

Default re: Florence

Florence and surrounding area, young folks are leaving in groves because there is absolutely no job opportunities unless you want to work at Walmart, Target, a grocery store? In addition to that there is nothing for young people to do here. And no place to shop other then Walmart and Target. Granted you can get alot of house here for little money, but you better like it because you will be spending lots of time in it for lack of anything else to do. When most kids go off to school very few ever return. I have lived here for almost 20 years and one more would be unbearable. Heading out myself. Good Luck to you but I would seriously consider other options.
