I usually only see the dead ones on the side of the road here in Texas but a couple weeks ago I actually saw a live one which I don't see often. I was walking in the park and had on previous days heard rustling in the brush which I took to be a possum, birds or whatever. But this time I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and when I turned to look, it was disappearing into the bushes, but by God, it was a live armadillo alright!

Default Armadillo's everywhere

Yes, there has been an increase in armadillo's. I travel everyday from Stevenson to Athens and have been doing this for two years. Only this year is the first year I have seen any Armadillo's in Scottsboro and Hollywood dead on the side of the road. They are everywhere now from Athens to Hollywood.

The last few times I visited my mom in Alabama, I noticed there were no dead possums on the side of the road.
Well, in Houston that happened too and it coincided with a large increase in the number of taco stands on the city streets. Just a hunch mind you. (I think, on the menu, it's the item called "Chicken Supreme").
