Default Any northerners ?

Hello everyone I was wondering if there are any Northerners that have recently moved to Alabama I would love to hear how you like it and how much of a change it was for you or wasn't We only visited once and are planning our move for June when my kids get out of school I found it to be so beautiful there and the people were so friendly it was actually strange to us coming fron Philadelphia we are definitely not used to that One builder we talked to for maybe 10 minutes actually gave us his home number and told us to call him if we had any questions To us those things just don't happen like that where we come from When I tell people where we are moving all they say is "Wow it is really different down there" My question is Why? why is it so different Are we going to have such a hard time adjusting ? Hope to hear from you Thanks in advance

I was born and raised in NY and moved to Hunstville, al. I loved it. The people are so different and wonderful. Strangers say good morning, good afternoon. It took me a while to use to it. The air is cleaner and the houses are cheaper and even the rent is cheaper. The schools are great. I did miss some snow but I didn't miss the very cold weather. You will love it in Alabama. Especially South Hunstville because it's a little city which reminds me of New York but stay away from North hunstville. But there are lots of good small town in Alabama but since i'm a city girl i didn't want to move into a very small town because it would have been a big change for me. One thing you will notice is that eveyone will no your from the north because of the accent. Everyone new I was from New York but still got treated with great hospitality and they never made me feel out of place. Good luck.

I was wondering the same thing-- if the poster that stated that or anybody who feels that would say why I would appreciate it. My family and I are planning to move to the huntsville area in '08.

Default South Hunstville

Hunstville is a beautiful place, great people beautiful and clean. Great schools. North Hunstville is where most of the crime is. You know every area has a good and bad section, thats why i say if you move to Huntsville live in South hunstville. No crime, no prostition and a great place to raise a family. I found South east hunstville was the best area to live and have the best schools. Whitesburg Middle, Chase El. Mountain Gap Middle, Weatherly El, Challenger middle and el and Farley Elementary are great schools and so is Grissom High school, its the best school in hunstville. The zip code is 35803 and some of 35802. I did lots of research before i moved to huntsville. If you have anymore questions about Hunstville feel free to ask, i don't mind helping and i know how important it is to find good school for your kids.

There is more crime in the north Huntsville, but it does not compare to crime in larger cities like Atlanta, New Orleans, or Houston, all of which I have lived in. Madison City schools are also very good and there are alot of new homes being built in the Madison area. Northern Madison county (Monrovia area) is also experiencing alot of new home building but the schools in the county seem to be having difficulty keeping up with all the new folks moving in.

Well compared to other cities the crime in North Hunstville is nothing but if you have a choice then south huntsville is better. Oh Madison City schools are great, they are buidling more houses there. Its turning out great. Now Monrovia I always stayed away from because that area gets hit with tornadoes. I just think the whole Madison County is a great place to live. There are lots of great places to live in the state of Alabama.

Personally, I'm not concerned with schools except for how they will affect potential resale value. My daughter just started college so it's just me. I'm not worried about commuting to work since I telecommute and will be bringing my job with me. What I'd really like is a new(er) home on around 1/2 acre so I'm not right on top of my neighbors. I don't need to be right "in town" since I don't have to commute, so I'm open to all areas. Any ideas?

Well then you might be interested in Lacey Springs, you can get a nice size house with lots of acres and its very affordable. Same thing with Cullman, New hope, Al, Hobbs Island in Huntsville is also out of the way with houses very far apart from each other. There is also Monrovia, Toney, Hazel Green, Meridianville, New Market. These are all beautiful towns in Madison County and you won't be far from Huntsville. There are so many nice affordable towns in North Alabama I can't mention them all but the ones i've mentioned, i've been to and have seen them with my own eyes. Lots of beautiful new brick homes with lots of acres of land, you'll love it. Good Luck
