Huntsville and B'ham both have airports. Southwest flies into B'ham. Atlanta is 2 1/2 hours away, Nashville is 2 hours, estimated time away..
Boating on the lake even on the weekend is not busy IMHO. National Bass fishing tournaments are held there. Sailing, fishing, pontoon boats and houseboats depending on your fancy. Our mountains are not like the ones out in your neck of the woods.

Nashville is 3 hours from Birmingham, if you're lucky.

We were discussing Guntersville, not B'ham.
B'ham is about 60 miles from G'ville. Huntsville is around 30 miles away.
I knew you were from out west, I just didn't want you to think we had mountains like the rockies.. LOL.
We have some pretty areas with waterfalls and caves.
You might want to check with Zennjenn on the H'ville forum, she moved to H'ville from CA. Her DH works in H'ville and they live in a subdivision. I met a couple this week who moved to Arab from CA.

Water falls and caves are a big plus to me :-)
I am sure more and more will move there. While my town (yes, it's a town) is small compared to others in Ca. 60,000 population. I would like smaller while wife can still take a short drive to town and shop.
Going to Google some of those towns you posted.
Thanks

Shoot me what your thinking and lead me in the right direction.
Also, what about taxes? City and state?
Thanks,

Alexander City is great. It has a hospital and at least 4 skilled nursing homes with the VA Home and also is within 1 hour range to Montgomery area hospitals,(4), Birmingham hospitals(numerous), Opelika hospital(40 minutes)Tallassee hospital(30 minutes) and Dadeville hospital(15 minutes). There is a place on Sunnylevel Cutoff that has 10 beautiful wooded acres and a large pond that is for sale. Property taxes are not that expensive in comparison to other counties, but that is a price we pay to have great schools and roads. The Alexander City school system is a great school system and has lots to do for a small town. Look up the Alexander City Outlook, Lake Martin Magazine, and the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce. I lived there for 32 years and loved it. My husband's job moved us away, but we still call Alexander City home.

You will find property taxes are nil compared to other states, but there is a state income tax.

WOW! Kinda rude. Are you a native to the US? Before you ask me, yes I am. My grandfather was Cherokee and from N. Carolina. That side of my family dates back there to the 1800's! Yes, we checked it out :-)
One in every growd. If I like it, your comment will only push me to move there and enjoy what God created for ALL man to enjoy.
I am sure Keeper will step in for a further talking too :-)
Good day!
