Basically the city sucks. I know it may look "nice" near the downtown gov't bulidings, but outside of that it's dirty and nasty and ugly.

The summers are brutal with humidity year round. If you don't have a/c in your car then go ahead and have it installed.

There are no nearby mountains. The closest "mountain" will be a few hours drive northeast towards Anniston, AL. But those are more like hills compared to the real mountains in the west. Good news is that one of the cleanest and prettiest beaches in the nation are nearby at Destin, AL and Panama City, AL. - about 3 hours drive away.

Most of the politics in the state is conservative. Even the democrats are conservative.

Birmingham is only an hour or so drive north and there is a plethora of shopping and excellent restaurants. Just stay away from B'ham downtown after 6pm at night.

Land and housing is cheaper than California... you'll be shocked. Taxes are minimal compared to what you have been paying in CA.

I've lived in Alabama (Tuscaloosa, B'ham, and Huntsville) for many years. It's better than Mississippi. Nashville, TN and Atlanta, GA easily outdo any place in this state.

I'm looking to move to Colorado or Washington. Tired of the humidity, brutal summers, and freezing-ass weather in the cold. Yeah, it will definitely feel much colder here in AL than CA because there is more humidity. I met a guy who worked in B'ham and Dallas, who was from Vancouver, BC. He told me the coldest winter he ever experienced was in B'ham.

Good luck.
Are you kidding about the winters? The other sites I've researched didn't make it sound that bad! Now you have me re-thinking it. I was gunho on Mobile (or Montgomery) but I better sign off before I read any other bad news.

Prattville's public schools are much better. Whatever you do please DO NOT send your children to montgomery's public schools.
So maddyINbama would you say I would be doing even better than Prattville, Millbrook or Wetumpka by moving to Mobile?
