I have family in Fayette... Wait till ya get there you will see Pendley on just about everything you pass.
However there is NOTHING to do there.. You will have to drive the 30 miles to Tuscaloosa or 30 miles to Jasper for any entertainment.
Good Luck!

Why?
First of all why would you move there? I am originally from Lamar county which is about 10 miles from Fayette and trust me there is absolutely nothing to do! The previous post is correct in saying you have to drive 30 miles to even go shopping.

Average west Alabama small town
Small town. No theater. No bowling alley. No swimming pool. Excellent city park (with active sports programs). 5 or 6 auto parts stores. 3 or 4 barbeque places. WalMart Supercenter. 2 or 3 more small grocery stores.
Druid City Regional Hospital Branch. Dialysis clinic. Local MRI/CAT Scans.
Dentists. Several pharmacies. Excellent schools. Good sports and music programs.

It's dry
I don't think anyone has mentioned yet that it's dry, as in no alcohol sales. I don't know if you're a drinker but if you are you'll have to drive that 30 miles that everyone is talking about to get a six pack or a drink in a restaurant.

Actually it is 15 minute drive to the "beer store" (on the county line), but 35-40 minutes is accurate to get to Tuscaloosa or Jasper. The above statements are correct. This is a small "retirement" community. Seems as though everyone is in school, or retired. I think that DCH, Fayette Co. Medical Center is the largest employer in the county... Lots of drugs, nothing else for entertainment! Not a lot of job opportunities for anyone other than a professional. Have had notorious corruption in law enforcement agencies... that they re-hired when he got out of prision... lol. I dunno, no good reason to live there for me, but I still visit family from time to time. Some friendly folks though. Lots of churches.

You don't have to drive far for alcohol in fayette... it is all in who ya know!! That is why Fayette is still dry to this day... too many bootleggers and Baptists to vote against it... Nothing to do for teenagers, except get pregnant... and they wonder why teenage pregnancy rate is so high here... I moved away from Fayette when I was 17 years old and never looked back except to occasionally visit family... I am now disabled and moved back for financial reasons... if you like somewhat quiet slow living, very nosey people, corrupt legal system, No jobs, no health care for crap, and I could go on and on... well, then this is the place for you!!

I have an aquaintance who is a Fayette county deputy. He say's that like many small towns and rural counties, they have a serious meth problem. He attributes it to lack of anything else to do.

We are moving there ourselves and personally I can't get there fast enough. I've had enough of the drive-by shootings, the Katrina Rats trying to lift your purse from the shopping carts, the big city mess. I despise this life in Houston and I'll move to Fayette, AL with a stupid grin on my face and a banjo on my knee. Who gives a rats backside whether there is a movie theater or big shopping malls. There is plenty to do for the younger set too, as long as they are creative. Whatever happened to creativity? Put some of the youngsters of Fayette up against some of the "big city kids" and see who has better morals and attitude on life.
