Default Will there be another push for the lottery?

I'm just curious if there will be another push when Riley leaves office.

Of course! Those Alabama politicians just can't WAIT to get their hands on all that money!
Ask yourself, though....do you really want them to have access to zillions of dollars? - I mean, more than what they can get now.

Sure. Every time I cross the state line, I put 3-5 bucks down on Lotto tickets.

And if they design a program like Georgia's, I'm all for sending my kids to college tuition-free. No skin off my nose.

Here's the thing. Lotteries are voluntary. They are not a tax on the poor. They are not evidence of sin. It's just a way to raise additional money without raising taxes. If you don't want to play, then don't.

Quite frankly, I'm trying to understand how it's the business of a few fundies whether or not I want to buy a lotto ticket or not.

I just hope they don't mess it up like they did in FL. and say they are using it as additional money for schools and then turn around and cut funding to schools.

I wasn't here last time so I don't know the reasoning behind not having lottery.. I am sure it is probably the same as the ones we have here for not selling alcohol.

I have no problem with people buying lottery tickets. Set fire to your money, eat it, buy lottery tickets...it's your money, do what you want with it. I just do NOT want Alabama politicians to have access to that kind of money. They'll find pork projects. They'll set up a giant, self-perpetuating, expensive bureaucracy (with their relatives as the bureaucrats) to administer it. And yes, they'll do exactly what Florida did (let lottery money take over funding the schools and use school money - i.e. taxes - elsewhere), and they'll use Florida as the shining example to justify themselves.
Need an example? Just look at all the hanky-panky with junior colleges.

I don't like the lottery because poor people are the ones that pour money into it and the upper classes are the ones that benefit from it. Unlike the religious Bible beaters, that's a valid reason.

Secondly, the reason why the lottery is so important in Georgia is because the University of Georgia is one of the best public universities in the country. Alabama and Auburn don't hold a candle to Georgia academically. Being in the honors program at UGA is basically like going to an Ivy League school.

If people paid taxes, Alabama could have great schools. We're paying major taxes here in New jersey, but I have the satisfaction of knowing that my kids will go to some of the best schools in the state. If we decide to go the public route.
