Foley vs Robertsdale information needed
OK, what's the latest on Foley? I have read crime ridden and drug ridden. Then I read no, it's not worse than any other city/town/area? Has the Latino influx stopped or slowed down? We can buy a nice 10 place with a good home in Foley, but would like some current input from those who know. Same questions for Robertsdale and Summerdale if those who know would be so kind to respond. By the way, a job is not a consideration since I am retired, but do have 2 boys, ages 6 and 12 who are homeschooled. Taking care of them and helping my wife with the schooling is a full time job at times. Thanks in advance for any information in regards to my questions.

I just got back from Summerdale last week. I didn't go to WalMart but I did go to the new mall in Gulf Shores and it was pretty empty. My family said the illegals were still there but it had slowed due to construction slowing down.
There are a lot of homes for sale, more than I remember seeing previously. Some new construction of what are called cottages in Summerdale but they are huge.
Have you been to Summerdale? It is a pretty large area and I have yet to see the downtown area. I drove all around W. Summerdale, Foley and Fairhope and didn't see any gang signs or even illegals for that matter. Doesn't mean they aren't there I just didn't see them. My nieces had friends over and they were all very nice young adults.
Robertsdale hasn't changed much since the last time I was there a year or more ago.
If I were going to buy in Summerdale or Robertsdale I would check with the neighbors and ask them about crime in the area or stop a policeman and ask them. I don't think you can go wrong with buying a home in Summerdale but that is JMHO. My family still don't lock their doors, so it can't be that bad.
I am sure there is more crime than in the past but that is happening everywhere. I live in a small town and it is happening here too.

There are still plenty of illegals in Foley, all you need to do is go to Wal-Mart and you can see. It's not only the consruction business, it's also the landcaping and nursery businesses that hire them. I never hear of any serious crime going on though. I recommend looking in the Elberta or Magnolia Springs area for a really nice area to live in.

If you travel from Robertsdale to Gulf Shores, on 59, you can see all the Spanish signs, for grocery stores, bars and restaurants. Foley has more illegals than most places down here...like the previous post said, just stop by Wal Mart in Foley. The worst problem is that they seem to drink and drive, even during the day, more so than other crimes. There are many drug related deals also. Ck statistics with each city.
I am hispanic(born an American citizen) and know what I am talking about. Foley has more crime than the 3 places you mention. Yes, ck Magnolia Springs or even Fairhope, outside the intown city limits, there are many affordable nice subdivisions. I live in Fairhope and don't lock my doors either. The children would love it here as the city has expanded activities for them including a skateboard park opening soon. Moderator cut: ..

Welcome to Alabama . Have you been to the beach to meet people? You could also go to "The Wharf" in Orange Beach to meet some younger people.

IIRC I heard my nieces talking about that place. They are young adults. You might try just going around the mall and talking to some of the young sales staff. If you are an exchange student, what about school? Give it time, you will meet some ppl

Keeper, you went to the beach for your vacation and you haven't shared pictures with us yet?
I had been browsing pics on another site and had bumped into some of the southern end of Ala. and they are just gorgeous.

I went to the pier in Fairhope and took 1 pic of the area. Photography isn't something I am known for.
It is a beautiful area..
