Default term redneck

the term redneck came from white farmers who worked all day in the hot sun the sun burned their necks and turned them red thus the term redneck

Biggest issue with the the term is the fact that "redneck" used to be a compliment. In most places it was used to describe God fearing hard working down to earth farm folk

Then somewhere along the way an idiot named Jeff Foxworthy decided to make jokes. Funny jokes no less.

But the jokes he tells are actually describing what us southerners call "White Trash"

But he knew that saying "you might be a redneck" is not an insult(or it used to not be) as is "You might be white trash"

We were proud to be called "rednecks" for my reasons above. We would knock your teeth out for calling us "white trash" though.

Hence Jeff ruining the definition of a true "redneck" by using it in place of "common white trash"

I heard once it had something to do with guys that didn't have the proper shaving materials, thus resulting in 'red necks'

the term redneck came into being, when the coal miners decided to go union... those that joined the union, wore red hankys around their necks..to disquinish from non union members.

Well, I'm from the deep south...and I have no clue what ya'll are talking about. Listen to some of Jeff Foxworthy's comedy...he'll tell you what a redneck is. Most people wouldn't know a redneck if they were shaking hands...cause rednecks can be anyone from a good ol' boy/girl to a crackhead? I guess it's just a southern thang....truth of the matter...you really wouldn't want to know a true redneck...they are pretty narrow minded in all aspects. (At least my 55 yrs. of experience with'em) But, man are they funny folks!!
