Tornado issues? Hurricanes? Other natural disasters?
How often do they occur? Other than being prepared for an emergency anything else?

Tornadoes and hurricanes. Not much else. Well, maybe an occasional earthquake. We try to please everybody.

Well, with hurricanes, you get several days' notice. Plenty of time to board up the house, buy bottled water, etc. Compared to Louisiana, Alabama is pretty much the model of efficiency when it comes to evacuation.
With tornados, pay attention when the weather feels unsettled. Keep close to a television or radio. If you live in the Birmingham market, tune into ABC 33/40. Our motto is, "When it's hitting the fan, watch James Spann."

I remember the earthquake back in '97, it was 4.9 magnitude. I was at work that night and remember the whole building moving, it was like a sliding feeling. Weird.

I bought earthquake insurance on our home in Huntsville. Wasn't that expensive. I think I went with a 10% deductable (2%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% were available I think).

In southern Alabama I went though too many hurricanes to count, endless tornadoes and wind storms, floods, etc.

We just closed on a house two days ago. We are getting the earthquake insurance (as we wrote above) and also flood insurance and sink hole insurance. In addition, our homeowners insurance includes identity theft insurance up to I think $30K. Good thing to check into.
