I'm a Michigander with a possible job opportunity working for Montgomery County government. I live/work in the state capital of Michigan so I'm used to a city that shuts down at 5:00, but I'm also 7 miles from Michigan State University with everything it offers. I'm divorced, my kid is grown and in college up here so I don't need to think about schools. I'll probably need to rent until I can sell my home in MI and prefer a quiet area, low crime is a given. I don't know if county government will require me to reside in Montgomery County. Any suggestions about cities, towns, neighborhoods would be greatly appreciated! I can't even do a rental search until I have an idea of where I'm looking.

Thanks in advance!

I have lived in Montgomery nearly all my life. Working for county government, unless you are an elected official, does not require you to live inside the county. I actually live in Wetumpka, a suburb just north of Montgomery. Another city to look into is Prattville or Millbrook. Montgomery is much smaller, but it is very friendly.
I have a house for sale in Wetumpka. Since you don't have worry about schools, you just have to figure out what kind of "scene" you are looking for. Wetumpka is small and sleepy, but really close to Montgomery (no interstate driving necessary to Montgomery). Prattville would require you to travel interstate or toll bridge. Montgomery has several different areas...old cloverdale is artsy. Pike Rode/East Montgomery is the newer part. What kind of lifestyle are you looking for?
