Cheaha State Park
Spent our honeymoon there in a cabin, very nice and quiet.

I second this. My fiancee and I stayed there last spring while it was snowing. We had a great time and plan on going back sometime this year.

The Big Tree in Bankhead National Forest in either Lawrence or Winston County (hey you're out in the middle of the woods it's hard to know which one you're in).

There's a 6 or 8 mile round trip unmarked overland route to it, or there's the 12 mile round trip "trail." It's in quotes because while there is usually a visible trail part goes over a an area that floods so its hard to find the path at times, and I think the dead fall is only cleared once a year which means you may end up detouring aroound deadfall or fallen trees that come up to an adult's waist on their side. Oh and unless there's a convenient fallen tree that you trust to use you're going to have to ford or jump rock to rock (if possible) over a few creeks. Still there are places to camp if you want to try it in two days. I'd defintely allow a whole day for this as the only map you can get is either internet directions or one a gas station in Moulton sells (neither of which are very good) so you may end up backtracking after wandering into deadend valleys or losing the trail.

I certainly second those who recommend Dismals Canyon. It is one of the least known attractions in the state and is a unique place. I believe there's only four places in the world where the glowing worms (dismalites) have been found (the others are in New Zealand and China).

Part of the Discovery Channel's series on Dinosaurs in America was filmed in the canyon. And indeed, entering down into there is like stepping back into another world.

Although not exactly a scenic attraction, the tour of the Hyundai plant in Montgomery is a real hoot. The "dance of the robots" is something to behold.

Alabama is a state full of natural and man-made wonders. It deserves to be better appreciated for all it has to offer.
