Smile Florence

Is it cheap, safe, and are there any "good" colleges there (even Community)?
A place I worked for is building a new restaurant there and I was thinking of going back and going along to the new store in order to get out of where I am.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Florence has the University of North Alabama, a fine small 4-year college. On the other side of the river is Southwest Shoals Community College.
Overall, the area is pretty safe.

Northwest Shoals Community College. And if you want to be a teacher or a nurse, UNA is arguably the best school in the state for those professions.

Hi Allena,

There are three colleges/universities in the Florence area. In Florence we have the University of North Alabama and Heritage Christian University and in Muscle Shoals there is Northwest Shoals Community College.

I don't know where you will be moving from, so I'm not sure how housing prices will compare. You can find rentals starting from $300/month and can buy a small house in good condition (maybe some fixin' up still to do) in the $70,000-$80,000 price range. If you can do a lot of work yourself or have help, you can find a house for less than that.

As in any city, there are places that might be considered more safe than others. When you find a rental or house to buy, the best thing to do is contact the local police station and ask for crime statistics for that neighborhood.

Hope that helps answer your question!
