Emmanuel Christian is obviously a private school, so Jenny should have known the rules when she signed up.

My best buddy has been begging for over 10 years to move down there, he and his family love it there, as did my sister when she lived there. He is a bank VP and he has not mentioned there being employment problems there.

I've not heard anything about Enterprise getting the I110 road way. Enterprise is growing quickly.
A lot of country music stars are taking notice and buying things around town. They are suppose to be building an amusement park near Enterprise also. Enterprise is projected to be a city like Branson, MO.

Yep, that's why the Interstate may connect to Enterprise instead of Dothan. In my opinion, Dothan doesn't really need a connector. In case no one has noticed, Interstates tend to cause sprawl, which is never a good thing. There was a proposal map on the ALDOT site some months ago, it showed 3 or 4 possible routes for the connector. The most popular one ran up to Dothan, almost directly over US231 and bypassed the city via Taylor and up to US84.

Ranting and raving on a public forum does not change the rules of a private school. She enrolled her daughter there, did she not?

She says Alabama people do not welcome people that are not from there. If she has been around the Wiregrass long enough, she would have noticed Fort Rucker. The largest Army Aviation base in the world. All those people are not from the Wiregrass and a lot of them come back and retire there after they get out of the millitary. Someone likes and feels welcomed if they come back!

Paddlings always worked for me. I did not want one, so I knew to behave and I would not get one.
LOL, Next chapter Jennypooh.

Calm down everyone..
Be civil, no personal attacks, flaming, or insults. We may attack ideas (politely) but we do not attack the speaker of the idea. Be careful with your words, there is a point where being direct crosses a line into blunt, in-your-face hostility. Please, report bad posts instead of engaging in flame wars on the boards.
If you disagree with something, say so, but explain WHY.
Our opinions on a location or issue are just that, opinions. Highly subjective. Personal preferences. Quirks, even. Leave wiggle room for dialogue, others may not see things the same as you, or been there as long as you, and any one of us can be wrong. Pouncing on someone you disagree with runs contrary to the spirit of this board and its members. We are here to help each other.

She was showing alot of favortism between her and the other children there. There may be some nice teachers there and I do have some good things to say about the principal Mr.Redmond . But they need to get some younger and more patient 1rst grade teachers in there! My daughter was treated like an outkast and when I tried to talk with the teacher about some of my concerns and the teacher treated me like I had no place to question anything and in front of my little girl said," Well, I don't know why you have your kid in my class!" This hurt my little girl's feelings. She had a bad temper!
By the way Raydeemart, I am a church going girl and I am a Christian but I absolutely DO NOT Approve of punishing a child for acting like a child! Maybe they done things differently when your children went there but I had a very close watch at all times on the things that was going on there and they were way to hard on those little first graders! They wanted them and expected them to act like Nuns and Monks and not like normal , happy , Christian children! They basically set the rules so high that these children are set up to fail! I noticed that no matter how much I cheered my daughter on and supported her, she was really hard on her self! I'm sorry but they are giving Christianity a bad name! Their rediculous rules caused her to focus too much on not making the wrong move rather than learning about God, education, and bible verses! Mr. Redmond offered to put her in the other 1rst grade class which was exactly right next door and both 1rst grade classes do everything together so I decided there was no use in switching teachers.
I have come to find out that alot of schools around here are very old fashioned! Not to say that its bad or good. I don't feel either way about it! I think that there are both good and bad things about the old fashioned way. I also think that there are alot of Good and bad things that have come from the 21rst Century as well!
Like the law they past in Panama City,Fl. NO CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN THE SCHOOLS!
One thing I don't understand is ...... Alabama allows spanking in the schools... complete strangers paddling our children!!!! but if you pick up a book on how to train your dog , it will state..... NO HITTING ! NEGATIVE ENFORCEMENT CREATES NEGATIVE RESULTS! IF YOU USE POSITIVE ENFORCEMENT ...YOU ARE SURE TO SEE POSITIVE RESULTS! Now, surely I know , and everyone reading this knows that our children deserve to be treated better than a dog right? So how come such a rule is passed? I think it is morally wrong and no offense but Alabama needs to stop being so narrow minded about things! STOP TREATING OUR CHILDREN LIKE THEY HAVE NO RIGHTS!!!! and stop treating us parents like WE HAVE NO SAY SO OVER OUR CHILDREN!
I wouldn't suggest anyone put there children in these schools unless they know what they are in for.
Oh! and if anyone agrees with some of things said in here or wants to sign my petition against Corporal Punishment , please email me at this email address jlestes84@aol.com Thanks !

Hi Jen, I was wondering if you have thought about homeschooling? It can be very rewarding from what I hear. Maybe someone at your church can help you to homeschool both spiritually and academically. I hope your daughter is ok.
No, definitley not, should any educator be spanking a child that is not their own. That is foolish. THese kids now-a-days grow up remembering those who spanked them and humiliated them in front of their classmates and eventually come back for vengance. Our kids kill everybody and anybody in the schools when they are pushed over the edge. I do not want my child to be in a school that spanks because of this reason. Call me whatever, but it is true, the facts are on the table. YEs, it can happen for different reasons too. So that is why we do not need to add the striking of a child by an educator.
If administration in the public schools would get the sports out of the ACADEMIC CLASSROOMS, it would help. Place the sports and coaches in the fields and courts where they belong and let the ACADEMIC TEACHER have their classrooms back. The coach/teacher thing just puts so much seperation into the classrooms. THe ACADEMIC teaching is being made to take a back seat to the sports. Administrtion is responsible for this. They are not educators. They are accountants. They don't know the first thing about educating a child ACADEMICALLY. If they did than they would take the sports out of their curriculum of ACADEMICS. Every child should get to PLAY. WE as Americans pay a sports program that dictates to us, which of our children are worthy of PLAY! LUDICRIST!! Let them all play, in their communities. THere are so many positives to this for every American child. If a ballgame is going to keep kids from dropping out than why wouldn't we make sure all of our children get to play?? Well roundedness comes from home. Yes, educators and coaches can help this process but initially it comes from home. This is a way to get more of our kids off the couches and away from the video games and off the streets, because now they have somewhere to hang out whether they play or not. It is a way to get to know your communities. I believe that the kids would learn to respect their communities more.
So, no, I am on quite the opposite side of paddling in schools. Don't nobody better ever strike my child as an educator. THey will have me deal with. Sometimes, all a kid needs is someone to listen to them. A school counselor should never let it get this far. Administration is pretty much useless though as far as the ACADEMIC EDUCATION, and emotional well being of an upset child. This is my opinion. The idea of ACADEMIC EDUCATION and paddling in schools just do not mix. Thank you for listening.

gosh! i was thinking of moving to dothan and now i know why i can't find any open positions as a social worker. does any one report this type of punishment that is going on in the schools to health and human services workers? i have looked on several job searches and have found no posting on social work, adoption agencies, or maternity homes for young moms. does alabama not offer any of these public services to their communities? all i want is a job before i move there! and i think it would be great to work with kids and young moms. any idea's for job opening of this type?

Can we get back on topic please?
I think the original question was about quality of schools which I don't think has been answered. Can anyone in Dothan address the issue of the quality of the public schools in and around Dothan? Thanks.
