As far as Social Services positions, yes, we have many many of them. There are hospices, nursing homes, hospitals and adoption agencies that are in need. Check out Dothan Region job search and jobs posting. Find a high quality employee. Find the perfect job. and I believe there is one posted there now.
Schools - we have some very good ones in town. For private schools -Emmanuel Christian is very good as is Northside Methodist. If your looking outside of Dothan for private schools, Ashford Academy is also very good. Public schools you have the city schools, and schools such as Rehobeth and Wicksburg that are growing daily as people move out of town and into the "suburbs". You can make good and bad out of everything and your the one responsible for that. You can let people destroy you or you can choose to not let it bother you. Your pick. And please, no more nasty grams Jen, I was just trying to express my opinion of Emmauel Christian.

I just stated the truth as to what happened to my daughter when she went there! I can't help it that the schools around here don't treat these children witht the respest that they should!

As for " UNITE" THANKYOU , THANKYOU, THANKYOU!!!!! Finally someone understands where I am coming from . Everything you said makes so much sense! I just don't see how any one can choose that hitting be the only way to discipline a child. It just makes me mad for those poor babies. Sometimes when I go in these schools and I have personally seen one coming out of the principals office crying and holding thier bottom , I just want to hug them and tell them it's okay. I originally came on here to just see if there were more people who felt the way I do and all that has happened is i have been attacked by everyone who feels other wise and they tell me that I'm the narrow minded one , the yankee, the one that needs to leave and move back to Panama City ... just a bunch of rubbish! Moderator cut: post was removed Anyways, Just wanted to tell you thankyou for commenting and agreeing with me on the paddling thing !!!!! It's nice to have other folks on here who feel the same way about protecting their children! Thankyou and God bless!

Below is what was posted after all I said was I thought Emmanuel was a good school. End of story. I personally don't agree with your theories, but that is okay as well. I don't have a problem with punishing children, you apparently do. End of story. Agree to disagree on that issue. Your posts come across very negatively and that is why everyone has responded as they have. Maybe if they were toned down a little, people would be more likely to listen to you.

Well my Daughter is no longer going to Emanuel Christian school. I had take her out because the teacher there was mistreating her! She was showing alot of favortism between her and the other children there. There may be some nice teachers there and I do have some good things to say about the principal Mr.Redmond . But they need to get some younger and more patient 1rst grade teachers in there! My daughter was treated like an outkast and when I tried to talk with the teacher about some of my concerns and the teacher treated me like I had no place to question anything and in front of my little girl said," Well, I don't know why you have your kid in my class!" This hurt my little girl's feelings. She had a bad temper!

By the way Raydeemart, I am a church going girl and I am a Christian but I absolutely DO NOT Approve of punishing a child for acting like a child! Maybe they done things differently when your children went there but I had a very close watch at all times on the things that was going on there and they were way to hard on those little first graders! They wanted them and expected them to act like Nuns and Monks and not like normal , happy , Christian children! They basically set the rules so high that these children are set up to fail! I noticed that no matter how much I cheered my daughter on and supported her, she was really hard on her self! I'm sorry but they are giving Christianity a bad name! Their rediculous rules caused her to focus too much on not making the wrong move rather than learning about God, education, and bible verses! Mr. Redmond offered to put her in the other 1rst grade class which was exactly right next door and both 1rst grade classes do everything together so I decided there was no use in switching teachers.

I have come to find out that alot of schools around here are very old fashioned! Not to say that its bad or good. I don't feel either way about it! I think that there are both good and bad things about the old fashioned way. I also think that there are alot of Good and bad things that have come from the 21rst Century as well!

Like the law they past in Panama City,Fl. NO CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN THE SCHOOLS!

One thing I don't understand is ...... Alabama allows spanking in the schools... complete strangers paddling our children!!!! but if you pick up a book on how to train your dog , it will state..... NO HITTING ! NEGATIVE ENFORCEMENT CREATES NEGATIVE RESULTS! IF YOU USE POSITIVE ENFORCEMENT ...YOU ARE SURE TO SEE POSITIVE RESULTS! Now, surely I know , and everyone reading this knows that our children deserve to be treated better than a dog right? So how come such a rule is passed? I think it is morally wrong and no offense but Alabama needs to stop being so narrow minded about things! STOP TREATING OUR CHILDREN LIKE THEY HAVE NO RIGHTS!!!! and stop treating us parents like WE HAVE NO SAY SO OVER OUR CHILDREN!

I wouldn't suggest anyone put there children in these schools unless they know what they are in for.

Oh! and if anyone agrees with some of things said in here or wants to sign my petition against Corporal Punishment , please email me at this email address
jlestes84@aol.com Thanks !

I have re- read everything that I have typed and I think that everything that I have typed is directed towards sticking up for these kids! Moderator cut: comment I didn't say one un true thing about my experience in Emanuel , or anything else for that matter. Oh! and don't take things out of context! It's very childish... Like when you said " I don't have a problem with punishing children , apparently you do! " That was never said or even hinted . If you would just pay attention more you would get it! What I think is...... The parents have the God given right to paddle NOT the SCHOOLS, PRINCIPAL, PASTOR or anyone like that, and they shouldn't force the parents like myself who DO NOT agree with such a thing to have to put up with feeling like even if you leave your child in the school , EVEN if you sign the form, that there is still a chance that some STRANGER that I don't even know is going to put a hand on my kid because I'm not around to stop it.......because its the LAW! These teachers go around threatening it all day long like they have no other way to get these kids attention. Lack of training if you ask me! I never once said I didn't believe in punishment. However I do believe that parents shouldn't resort so QUICKLY to just hitting right away . Geez I sure hope thats not what people are doing around here! You shouldn't take things out of context and make it into what you want . Also, I speak my mind, I never said anything offensive to anyone or towards anyone , unless you are a part of the school board...... if you are someone who took it offensively or can't handle my straight forwardness ...thats your own problem NOT MINE! If you don't agree with me , then keep it to your self! I'll say this again like I have before!!!!

I only started this whole thing to see if I can attract some people to sign my petition........IF YOU AGREE ... But all that started here was a bunch of people who wanted to start an argument about it!!! MOVE ON ..... TURN THE PAGE........ This is the only site so far that has attracted such weird negative attention. If you are not one of those people , then don't TALK TO ME! If you would like to talk to me about how you agree on the subject about throwing out corporal punishment , I'll be glad to hear from you! Thanks!!!

I do not agree with you, but my question is why do YOU keep coming back on someone that does not agree? You said it is that persons problem, not yours. Then since you do not agree with us, then you move on. Your words were, "MOVE ON.....TURN THE PAGE....."

Yes I did say MOVE ON AND TURN THE PAGE ....have you seen anyone yet DO IT!!! Just when I think someone has left it alone, someone comes back with something else towards me and usually it is twisted or taken out of context! I certainly , like anyone else don't want to be taken wrong , so once again I am usually going back and trying to clarify. It's like I can't get it clear enough to anyone on here!!! See right now I am having to explain to you why I have not yet been able to turn the freakin page! Like I said I came on here in the beginning just to see If there was anyone who felt like I did about the Corporal Punishment Law. All I got in return was an attack with insults like Yankee, go back where you came from Yankee, and rude comments about my children. I didn't come here for that! I am a nice person and if anyone were to get to know me , they would probably like me! I've never had a problem with being likeable!Well, until now that as! LOL! There was just no reason for anyone on here to address me with an argument on their subject and along with the rude comments.

Maybe I should have never said anything back or even tried to argue back ...... I should have just ignored ALL OF YOU! Like I said I was just on here for the people who agree with me . Sure I would like to listen to the reasons why you all support Corporal Punishment but you all didnt exactly go about it that way did you! Kevin , now you know why I explained like I did. I just felt like everyone was mistakening where I was coming from every time I made a point, and things were being twisted and taken out of context every time they posted something back to me! like one comment another person made on here " I believe in punishing children, aparently you dont" Thats not what I said EVER! Clearly that was twisted like it always was twisted on here. People were always saying things to me and about me that were not true , and I didnt want people getting the wrong impression about the kind of person I am . But I can tell now that no matter what I say about anything .....as long as I disagree with this paddling , I'll be judged, and yeah I may come across angry about the paddling thing, the truth is I HATE IT! but it doesnt mean you all have to take it to a personal level. So now you know, why it has been rediculously hard to TURN THE PAGE on here Jen

First and foremost.. Jenny has every right to post the way she feels about paddling without being attacked or called names. She is not the first member to post about not approving of paddling in the schools and I am sure she won't be the last.

This is no longer a friendly reminder..

Wow this forum really got away from topic. I am going to say I spank my children and in public if needed. Their teachers at their school have permission to do so also. Now that I have gotten that out of the way, lets get back on topic. I am from dothan, and I am an RNFA in surgery. There are seceral haspitals to choose from, and I will not here to recruit. If you have not made the move yet than I hope this is helpfull. The starting wage for a new Rn is $18.50/hr. I have been doing this for 14 years and am near $30. I know it isn't great with gas prices booming, but thats about it around here. The city is nice and people are friendly and tolerant, (unless you drive slow on the circle, don't drive slow on the circle, especially in the fast lane). Houses range from 90-300k and generally hover around 90-110 dollars/sq. ft.

Take a look at the dates REALLY, It was a couple of months ago when it was last talked about and besides no one cares about how you spank your children, thats your business. The argument wasn't even about that , the argument was about the teachers and other authorities doing it when it's the parent's God given right to. If you Really want to stay away from that subject and stay on jobs and etc then why are you bringing all of that up again. JUST LEAVE IT ALONE! No one has brought up that subject in quite a while so why don't you just DROP IT...
