Never fear.. there are WalMarts all over this area. I always call it Wally world too, although we don't have a gas station here with that name.

If you will need to find employment you might need to do some serious reserch as most of Al. is very limited in the good quality careers, pay, and all that go with them.
You might consider contacting the United States Census and get the demographics for the areas you are interested in.

I have been trying to find out, unsuccessfully, about the historical houses and museum. Here they are protected by guards, which is what my son does. It is a very good job here. I've been asking around but cannot find out if they hire guards there for that reason. I've seen low paying guard jobs but hope there are higher paying ones for him. Relocating is a serious worry especially in this economy. Thanks for the info.

regarding --jobs-----
I plan to re-locate to Alabama in 09 (retired) and read a few Alabama newspapers online.

Allthough I may (or may not) seek part time employment , I still read the "help wanted" ads.

It appears that has nearly "dried up"
However, in the newspaper here in MN that I read daily, the same is true.
What was once an entire page of "help wanted" ads in now down to one small column.

I believe finding a job anywhere might be difficult due to the economy.

[quote=Southlander;6225206]"Beachy Amish?" Did you mean Mennonite? They're closer to FAlkville.

When we attended their church for a while last year, they told us that they were Beachy Amish, a term they themselves prefer, which is a form of conservative Mennonite.

Their church and their homes where we stayed were in Hartselle. We even looked at buying a house there. The congregation contains about 60 families.

There is another, smaller group up the road from them because of a church split.

Montgomery is about in the middle of the state, about 3 hours S of H'ville.
