Laura-- I am a Floridian for all of my 48 years but 5 years ago my daughter went to Birmingham, Al to college, we had been living in Tallahassee and when she went off to college my husband and I moved to Orlando. I am under a retirement plan that will allow me to retire next year so about 3 years ago we bought our retirement home in Guntersville, Al. since our daughter loved Birmingham and said she wasn't coming back to Florida. We have spent as much time as possible up there since buying the home and it was an adjustment at first, not just colder winters (not much colder than Tallahassee winters) but colder than Central Florida but Guntersville is a small town. I have to say I have grown to love the area, folks are very friendly and it is just so much less stressful there, no crowds when you go to Lowes or out to eat, driving is so much easier, we have so much aggressiving driving in central Florida area I really get stressed driving here. So I know how you feel since I too have spent most of my life in Florida but you know change is good if we are going to grow and have new experiences in life. I have decided to really throw myself into the community when I get there full-time, I have already decided where I want to volunteer, we got a kyack and plan to start doing that and just get out and hike and do things that in Florida it is usually too hot to do! Good luck to you Laura.....
