They all come to Talladega on race weekends. Some of them have the original yellow paint.

So lets see if I have these current driving directions. Coming up on I-65, I get off at exit 264, go west and make a right on Coalburg Road. Then follow till I hit I-22? Any mileage figures for Exit 264 to Coalburg and Coalburg to I-22?? Thanks in advance!

Approximately 9/10ths of a mile west after you get off on exit 265, then approximately 2.1 miles north on Coalburg Road. It really isn't bad at all.

cpg is dead-on. I just made this trek yesterday when going to Jasper. It's the 41st Avenue exit (264) off I-65 (where Carver High School is) and then west. 41st Ave. becomes Daniel Payne Drive. Coalburg road is the first light and there is a truck dealership on the SW corner. Right on Coalburg and go just about 2 miles on the windy curvy road and you come out on the I-22 overpass. Turn left onto the highway. You truly can't miss it.

My GPS is unaware of the existence of Corridor X and was very concerned about me until I got close to Jasper.

I did the trip two weeks ago, worked out real well, I guess the eastern terminus is Exit 93 which empties on Coalburg Road. I am two years removed from exiting on Exit 63, that was no fun. Progress in any case. Thanks for this blog!!

Ha ha, I've always wondered what/how Nav systems and mapquest keep up with stuff like this. Coalburg is the last section before the interchange, but it could still be 3 years before its finished. They are even thinking of pushing on through North Birmingham and Tarrant at Tallapoosa and linking it with 20/59.

That would be really logical. So, no, they'll never do that. hah.

I have to travel from Atlanta to Memphis tomorrow and was wondering if these directions still apply: I20 into Birmingham; take I65 N to exit 264 (41st Ave) for .9 miles; turn R onto Coalburg Rd for 2.1 miles; turn L onto I22.

Also, my GPS has me exiting I20 in Oxford and getting back on at Riverside - is that just my crazy GPS or is there a detour of I20 in that area?

Thanks for your help.

The directions are still good. But I noticed around the holidays that exit 264 is no longer called "41st Avenue" and instead has been renamed "Daniel Payne Drive".

There is no I-20 detour between Oxford and Riverside. Maybe that is technically the "shortest distance" route per your particular GPS, so it is routing you that way. That happens to me sometimes when I accidentally hit "shortest distance" instead of "shortest time".
