Don't forget, LA (lower Alabama) has one of the most notorious toxic disposal sites - Emelle.

He is retired.
I don't care if I get the money out of my house or not, I gave one, very well built, fully furnished with mahagony & cherry French provencial furniture to a shelter for batterred women & children.
I also have 2 children who would love to have the house I am in now, my present living quarters is no problem at all!

Bank-owned foreclosures are your safest bet, Norma. I recommend that you visit your local library and pull up an archived copy of the February 10, 2007 Wall Street Journal, Weekend Edition. On page B1, you will find the following article:
"Profiting on Foreclosures: How Bargain-Hunting Investors Avoid Pitfalls of Hidden Liens, Evictions and Lemon Houses", by Jeff D. Opdyke.
Below is a brief quotation from that article (which may be all the information you really need at this point).
Quote:
... To find them [the foreclosures], get free foreclosure listings from county court clerks or sheriff's departments; some counties post them online. Commercial services provide access to local and national listings. Foreclosurenet.net provides information on bank-owned real estate for about $30 a month. RealtyTrac.com has nationwide listings of homes in foreclosure and offers geographically tailored email alerts for $50 a month.

THe URL meant nothing to me
THe URL to the electric company meant nothing to me. I dont live in AL I am planning on moving there and I was told ab out the electric y being so cheap. It would have been nice if you could have verified that or told us it was not true. What a novel IDea.

Bless your little heart, sammac, there is no need to be snippy. The question you pose; "Can an all-electric house in AL have a monthly bill of only $40?" can't be answered directly. Twostep, in response, could have asked how often you bathed. Hot water usage is variable and that would be a legitimate part to a complete answer. Some people are more wasteful with power than others.
Then there is the issue of power companies. There isn't just one, you know. Were you referring to Alabama Power, Athens Utilities, TVA, or what? Getting upset when your unclear question isn't answered immediately won't serve you well if you move to Alabama, where manners matter more than most places.
$40 is probably too low a figure for most people and most homes. How much you use is ultimately only decided by you.

Thanks so very much for your response. As far as being snippy I guess I was spoiled a few months ago when I asked about electricity cost and 2 people answered and gave me what they paid for electricity. Sounded like a intelligent answer to me. It was not was hard for them. For me it also would have been a easy question to answer. I could tell a person in Houston I spend in excess of 200 dollars a month for electricity and closed to $300 a month in the summer. Not exactly rocket science.

I lived in Houston as well and can verify the electricity costs quoted above. In contrast, I now live in Huntsville with Huntsville Utilities (supplied by TVA) and costs run about half what I paid in Houston for a slightly larger house (in Huntsville).
