A New Interstate From Jasper to Miami
This is all fiction but i've always thought a new interstate system from the new I-22 west of jasper to miami be worth it down the road. The new interstate would be called I-67 it would run near jasper, tuscaloosa, montgomery, dothan, bainbridge,ga,thomasville,ga,per ry,fla, and then would kink up to the fla turnpike at wildwood,fla(I-75).East of I-75 I-67 would be designated with the florida turnpike all the way down to homested (u.s.1).The new I-67 would make travel easier between memphis and miami.

231 (four lane, but surface road) already gives the link between Montgomery and I-10 in FL. I can't imagine a new road saving much more than an hour in the trip. If you drive straight through from the Tennessee border, west of I-65, you can get to Miami in about 14 or 15 hours in a regular car. IME, 231 is a better road than I-10, which is the most boring part of the journey.

I'm not so sure I would go so far as to say 231 is better than 10. For one, you can't go as fast, two, you've got traffic lights, especially around Dothan, Troy and Montgomery. I think at some point there should be an interstate linking Montgomery with I-10 and possibly something of an interstate or close to it from Tuscaloosa to Montgomery, but the latter will probably never happen.
I do believe there was discussion or even a proposal for an interstate linking Montgomery with Panama City though. Even still, if this were to pass, it'd be years before anything got started and much longer until things got finished.
...we can all dream though.
I dream that one day I-14 will exist so I can have constant interstate access from Savannah to Montgomery (I-16 to future I-14 near Macon) This is currently being studied. (From Augusta, GA to Louisiana I believe)

It's really already in place. Simply convert 280 into an interstate. Not that hard to do, if you ask me.

Those are the slow spots, but it could be possible to create a limited access perimeter route outside of the circle at Dothan, extend a ramp from I-65 south of Montgomery connecting to 231, and bomb Troy.
Troy is quickly becoming a problem. A few years back it had only a couple of traffic lights on the bypass to the town. They have allowed development on both sides of that road, and it has made it much slower and more dangerous.

LOL. Bomb Troy! Thats hilarious. If only... although Troy brought Troy State University soo they can't be all that bad. They've been talking about an outer perimeter around Montgomery for years and I think they may be doing it in the coming years (?) (enter someone who has all that info) I know it is supposed to be from around Hope Hull on 65 south of Montgomery to just east of Mount Meigs on 85.

231 is the most hellish highway in America. Excruciatingly slow. Why are the traffic lights always out of sync?

I just don't see how a "new" interstate will solve anything. They can't even maintain the ones we have *now*.

You have a great point about the I-14,i've read that 14 is supposed to connect Augusta,ga to Austin,tx but we'll see.I-16 to me should be extended through montgomery and finally ending at Cuba,al ie I-20/59.This is what I would do;run I-16 east of macon be directed on a new path following s.r.96 to u.s.80 between macon and phenix city/columbus.The remaining I-16 into macon should be called I-416.I-16 and I-85 would use the 80 bypass into phenix city.I-185 would still exist south of the u.s.80 bypass and I-85 takes over the northern portion of 185 into the present I-85.I-85 will then need a new three digit route number to where I-16 will take over west of auburn/opelika.I would most likelt desinate the route number as I-685 or I-885.The I-67 proposal I like it, but some minor details would be changed,67 wouldn't go into or around thomasville.Bainbridge is where i'd cut it south from georgia into florida, (following the u.s.27 corridor).Tallahassee might be a bit tricky on the routing,1.multiplex it with I-10 from west of u.s.27 and east to u.s.19 at monticello.2.I-67 would form an"L" from west to south then east of tallahassee along 27 to capps/ u.s.19 and then down to around perry.Dothan will be the I-67 and I-85 junction point under the new proposal.I-16 from macon to cuba,al is my number one priority for now.

I think I-14 would take care of Augusta to Montgomery. I forgot to mention that there is also a proposal to extend I-85 from Montgomery to Cuba, AL. That might be an easier way to help Alabama's "Black Belt"
