Sure thing. Why Calera? It's really way outside of town, and is a bit of a strip-mall kind of place. If you are not needing to commute into Birmingham, however, you should take a look at Montevallo, which is a couple of miles away. It's a college town, with a highly educated population.
In other words, help us understand your situation a little better so that we can make recommendations that are best suited for you.

Relocating to Calera
Hi,thanks for replying.Doesn't have to be in Calera, nearby or Clanton.I'm hoping to visit area soon because I've never been there.I am a single mom with 7 yr. old son.I currently work with people with developmental delays in State Of NewYork.Pursuing a career in nursing, would need employment also.Having trouble surching jobs within the field on the internet.I am relocating because of relationship.Apartments seem to be reasonable but more like estates than personal dwellings.I'm in need of job and 2 bedroom apartment or home.

Well, you're in luck coming to Birmingham, because good nurses can always find jobs in a city that's really a regional draw. With that in mind, I would look at the various job sites for UAB, St. Vincent, Baptist Health System, etc., as well as the Birmingham News' site al.com.
That being said, Calera or Clanton will make for a pretty long drive into town, unless you try Shelby Medical Center, which is part of the Baptist Health System. If you have luck there, however, I would offer that Helena or Pelham or Montevallo would make the most suitable places to live for quality of life and a good school system. Also, in the area you describe, there are a lot of new home developments that seem to be reasonably priced, particularly given the pressures developers seem to have experienced over the past couple of years. It's really worth a try to at least look into those areas.
Have you been to town yet? If so, the Sunday classifieds are probably the way to go. I know that hospitals are always competing against one another for really good nurses, not to mention retirement communities.
Good luck to you. Please let us know if you need further help.

I honestly think that Calera is a GREAT place to live. Calera is the fastest growing city in Alabama and has been for the last past several years! Because of its healthy growth, Calera has gotten things and will get things that will satisfy its newcomers. As a result of its growth, there is a good international population presence. There are new schools that are being built! Although Calera is a good little ride from downtown, it still makes a great place to live especially considering the fact that you have a growing child. By the way, I realized that Montevallo was mentioned as a choice to move to by another "blogger." Montevallo and Calera are parallel to each other, which means that they are the same distances from Birmingham! So Calera will be a good place to live no matter what! GOOD LUCK on your move!
