Question Gulf Shores?Orange Beach

Is that the only places in Alabama on the coast? Is the water blue? How far is it from Huntsville? What kind of lodging does it offer?

Yep....

To the east of Orange Beach is Perdido Key, Fla and to the west of Gulf Shores is Fort Morgan and West Beach which are both inside Gulf Shores city limits. Daulphin Island is in Alabama but you have to go north near Mobile to get there. Look at a map and you'll see what I am saying. Mobile Bay is basically in between Gulf Shores and Daulphin Island.

Lodging is pretty much condos. Brett Robinson Corp and Kaiser manage all the properties.

Not farmilar with Huntsville but it is at least 5 hours away. It is at the top of the state and the beach is way at the bottom.

Water- not the most impressive you will ever see. Destin, Fla about two hours east is much more blue. Destin has more to offer as far as activites. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing time... go to Orange Beach. Personally I think Orange Beach is classier. It is more upscale.

Hope this helps.

We will be possibly be relocating to Huntsville from Augusta GA...but we love the ocean and don't wanna be too land locked. She's from New England and loves the ocean....me, well I've always had salt in my veins.

From Huntsville to the Gulf takes about 5 hours. I know because I drive down there to see family. If you are looking for water in the H'ville area there is Lake Guntersville which is 69,000 acre lake and only about 20 min. mol from Huntsville. You can fish, boat and sail on the lake. Someone just caught a 78 lb catfish in the lake just the other day on a 8 or 15 test line. Bass fishing tournaments are held there frequently. It isn't the gulf but it is really pretty with the mountains surrounding the lake.

If heading to the Gulf Coast, plan to go before Memorial Day if you can. Lodging rates nearly double overnight that weekend. We stayed 5 nights last May at Panama City Beach in a really nice 2 bedroom condo on the beach for under $800. 5.5-6 hours from Huntsville if traffic cooperates.
