I am also wondering about Dothan vs. Enterprise commute wise to Ft Rucker & which area would be better living wise & job wise for me (I'm a CT tech still looking for a job )...
Thanks in advance for your replys!

There are two hospitals in Dothan (Flowers and Southeast Alabama MC), one in Enterprise, and (I think) one in Ozark. I remember the largest hospital being SEAMC in Dothan. I'm a nurse and wasn't too impressed with the wages about 6 years ago

We are currently stationed at Fort Rucker and living off-post. We bought a home just outside of Enterprise in Coffee Springs. (Our mailing address is Coffee Springs, but we aren't in the city limits proper. In fact, in the 2-1/2 years here, I have never been to Coffee Springs. We do everything in Enterprise.)
Anyway, we got a waiver for our son to go to Enterprise City schools instead of New Brockton County Schools. I must say, I have been completely impressed with the Enterprise School system! It has been wonderful. He is going to College Street Elementary, which is the oldest school in the city. It may not have the fanciest playground or the fanciest building, but the education received has far exceeded our expectations. And Enterprise schools rank towards the tops within the state.
We are in the process of selling our home, because we are military and Uncle Sam said it was time to go. We are quite saddened about leaving this area. It has become "home" for us, which says a lot with all the moving we do. The sense of community here, even before the 3.1.07 tornado, is unlike anything I have found before.
(NOTE: Just in case anyone reading is also looking for a home in the area, I did post ours in the city-data classifieds.)

In general, wages are much lower in this part of AL than in many other parts of the country. I have a friend with a master's degree and tons of experience in a relevant field making 28,000. Shockin' y'all. However, the cost of living is lower as well. Houses are cheaper, and taxes are lower.

Enterprise has the Holiday Inn Express & also a new Hampton in openning soon
Of course there is the guest house lodge at Rucker & depending on how much space you need, Rucker also has cabins on their Lake T.
For bed & breakfast, try the Rawls Hotel in downtown Enterprise.

The Hampton Inn will be on the back side of Boll Weevil Circle. (It loops all around the town.) It is near some restaurants (lunch and dinner dining) with the BEST pizza place (Mellow Mushroom) just a few blocks away. It is tucked back off the main road so I suspect it will be fairly quiet there.

Thanks for the details. Are you still located in Fort Rucker or have you moved?

We are here until the end of June. This is our 2nd time being stationed here. The first time we were here for about 1-1/2 years (flight school) and this time it will be just short of 3 years.

I live right off Rucker in Daleville, and my parents have a home in Enterprise. I have lived in the area since 2000, and I would be more than happy to answer any questions about the area. I do not reccomend living in Daleville, as there is nothing to do. The Enterprise school system is the best in the area, the education and athletic programs are great. The hotels I would reccomend are either the Hampton Inn, or Holiday Inn Express, both are located in North Pointe Center, which is also where Mellow Mushroom, Subway, Easy Street Pub, Brasas Brazil, and Effies Cantina are located. There are a lot of nice neighborhoods behind Dauphin Jr. High School, and off Rucker Blvd. If you plan on buying a home, I would reccomend doing so fairly soon, as the cost of living is expected to go up very soon. We have many country music stars relocating to the area, and a lot of money is being invested in the city of Enterprise, as well as the small town of New Brockton. New Brockton has a nice new development called Mayberry Place, and the homes there are around $150,000... With the expansion of Enterprise, and the dinner theaters that are in the process of being built, this area is also known as "The Next Branson, Missouri" Country Legend, George Jones has a home here in Enterprise, and Tracey Lawrence is one of the investors behind Mayberry Place, and Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn, has a subdivison called "Brookwood" in Enterprise.

Yes, Enterprise is buzzing with the country music...
