Slightly maybe by a few percentage points no more than 3-5% though i would think. I think it increases the greatest though in the period of Huntsville's most expansive growth which was during the 50's and 60's

Montgomery and Mobile where the two major points for the slave trade, that explains the rich southern black culture there.

The last slave ship to dock in the U.S docked in Mobile`s Plateu community or known to Mobilans as Africa Town. Ironicaly the decendents of the West Africans who came over and the decendents of the ship builder who built the ship are both queens to one of the largest Mardi Gra socities in Mobile and the Gulf Coast.
Also I believe what Mimp is saying is Mobile and Montgomery are both arcitectualy southern and how the streets and the Spanish moss dripping over huge oak trees which give a deep southern feel to it. There are southern cities that feel more southern than others. Such as Charlston,Savannah,Mobile,Biloxi, and New Orleans all have a very very distinct southern feel to it almost like an old world charecter to them.

PortCity that's why I love Montgomery and Mobile.I like the low country scenery from the spanish moss, oaktrees, alligators. I really dont like the mountain scenery as much. Not many cities have those attributes, Huntsville kind of reminds me West Virginia or something. When people come to Alabama that's what they want to see and I think Alabamians should be proud of that, because every state does'nt have that. When I was in Mobile I never seen so much rich culture and tradition.

I like the "Mountain" scenery and I like Mobile it seems to have a lot of rich culture there too both places have a lot to offer they are just different. Montgomery just is too run down and poor for me though.

Don't forget Mobile probably had more immigrants than even Huntsville (and it's governmnet people) in the big shipyard days before, during and after WWII. There's also families still there from elsewhere becuase of the old Air Force base. Also, so many great oaks with all the spanish moss and most other trees that gave the town an amazing coastal southern vibe were wiped out by Frederick.
In spite of all that, to me, Mobile is more "southern." B'ham is probably second becuase it invokes memories of the civil rights events. Montgomery is very much an exit ramp town to me. Huntsville, while very much southern, seems like Northern Virginia in some ways becuase of the federal people (not a bad thing really, many of them are folks who move often and know the routine.)

Well one thing I can say is Montgomery is in progress just give it time I see changes in that city that . I have meaja( Gulf Coast dilect) lol ,or major love for all of the big four and they all have something special about them. All of them are southern some more than others. I can say Montgomery is pulling to change the image that others see it as. Success doesn`t happen over night Huntsville didn`t become what it is today over night so give the Gump a chance.
