Don't know for sure, it's just my opinion. We owned a condo near Myrtle Beach for about 5 years and originally thought about retiring there from the Atlanta area, but after taking a trip to the Alabama coast we found it much nicer, less costly and not as congested. Also having a moderate sized city(Mobile) gives a person more employment opportunities than the South Carolina coast and that seems to make the area more balanced. Now if your a golfer ( which I'm not, I'd rather fish) then I'd say South Carolina get's the nod, cause there are golf courses all over the place.

Alabama grew .8% from 2007-2008. Also, 44 of 67 counties grew during this time period.

Alabama is growing moderately well. It's not stagnant but isn't booming like Georgia or North Carolina. I suspect we'll start seeing really fast growth once Georgia and/or Tennessee start getting full.

When will that be? Alabama needs to become one of the top ten fastest growing states in the US. It's time for Alabama to progress and leave the past behind.

NO! We don't want to grow so fast! I'd rather grow more slowly to let such things as roads, sewerage, fire and police services keep pace.

I knew it! It never fails! Alabama can grow faster than what it is, being surrounded by states like Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee which growing fast. People are holding Alabama back from growing. They don't want nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's sad! It's sad that people who want Alabama to grow also have to suffer with people who want Alabama to grow slow or who doesn't want to see change. I am tired of seeing the same scenery that has been in most of Alabama for years. I am tired of states that are Alabama's size moving up the ladder. I am tired of people always opposing faster growth in Alabama. I am tired of being tired of people who still want Alabama to be rural. Just like a child, Alabama has to grow and change; JUST ACCEPT IT! Quit being scared that Alabama is going to turn into another Metro Atlanta (bigger than Alabama's population). Alabama is too big and is too good to be lagging behind. If Alabama doesn't tighten up, South Carolina will surpass it and become the 23rd largest state. Just stop opposing growth. Maybe officials feel like they should have to fix all of these public works project because ain't no darn people moving here like the majority of the southern states. We have to stop critizing and opposing more growth in Alabama. We need to welcome and promote so that we can get that IKEA, so that we can get two more Cheesecake Factories, so that we can get a Trader's Jones, so that we can get more schools built, so that we can see bigger and better roads, and so that we can be the best and most prosperous state there is. Now is that too much to ask? Yes, I get what everybody is saying, but everybody isn't getting what I'm saying. Your hometown is not going to stay the same way forever. Your backyard is not going to always be that cow pasteur. Please people just be excited and try to welcome and promote MORE growth, instead not welcoming it. It saddens my heart that we don't want to welcome change, that is MORE growth. We need to get from under that RURAL image. Alabama is big; it can balance rural living and urban/suburban living.

Alabama is going to grow and will be one of the fastest growing states in the US. I pray to God that it happens so that we can have everything that we lack and everything that we won't. The reason why I'm angry inside is because I have to grow through this same crap with my family from New York when they say that "Alabama isn't going to amount to anything," "Old country Bama," "it's so boring," Y'all don't have nothing here." When I become the best construction developer and civil engineer, I will think about everything that y'all said, and I will fix it, and I will bring more growth to Alabama that IIIIIIIIIII think it needs and should have!
