I am tired of seeing the same scenery that has been in most of Alabama for years. I am tired of states that are Alabama's size moving up the ladder. I am tired of people always opposing faster growth in Alabama. I am tired of being tired of people who still want Alabama to be rural. Just like a child, Alabama has to grow and change; JUST ACCEPT IT! Quit being scared that Alabama is going to turn into another Metro Atlanta (bigger than Alabama's population). Alabama is too big and is too good to be lagging behind. If Alabama doesn't tighten up, South Carolina will surpass it and become the 23rd largest state. Just stop opposing growth. Maybe officials feel like they should have to fix all of these public works project because ain't no darn people moving here like the majority of the southern states. We have to stop critizing and opposing more growth in Alabama. We need to welcome and promote so that we can get that IKEA, so that we can get two more Cheesecake Factories, so that we can get a Trader's Jones, so that we can get more schools built, so that we can see bigger and better roads, and so that we can be the best and most prosperous state there is. Now is that too much to ask? Yes, I get what everybody is saying, but everybody isn't getting what I'm saying. Your hometown is not going to stay the same way forever. Your backyard is not going to always be that cow pasteur. Please people just be excited and try to welcome and promote MORE growth, instead not welcoming it. It saddens my heart that we don't want to welcome change, that is MORE growth. We need to get from under that RURAL image. Alabama is big; it can balance rural living and urban/suburban living.

Alabama is going to grow and will be one of the fastest growing states in the US. I pray to God that it happens so that we can have everything that we lack and everything that we won't. The reason why I'm angry inside is because I have to grow through this same crap with my family from New York when they say that "Alabama isn't going to amount to anything," "Old country Bama," "it's so boring," Y'all don't have nothing here." When I become the best construction developer and civil engineer, I will think about everything that y'all said, and I will fix it, and I will bring more growth to Alabama that IIIIIIIIIII think it needs and should have!
LMAO i didn't read the whole thing but still LMAO.... Ok so now I read the whole thing while I agree to an extent that people in Alabama definitely oppose change and growth, rapid growth still brings a ton of problems that most people anywhere aren't willing to deal with. Huntsville is growing at a pretty fast rate right now anything faster will be a disaster have you seen how slow things get down here like road and school improvements they barely can keep up with the little growth they've seen so far. Most people who live in Alabama like the slow type of lifestyle it will never be anywhere remotely similar to New York so i'm pretty sure your family is going to be making fun of you for eternity thats just how it is so I wouldn't put too much stock in that.

Lord, calm down everyone. We all know that a moderate amount of steady sustainable growth is great, which Alabama is experiencing right now. During these economic times, Alabama is doing VERY well, compared to other states.

Georgia's economy is faltering, NC's is collapsing, the West is experiencing massive economic hardship too. Not that I wish those places harm, I don't at all, I'm just saying that if we keep it up, we'll come out of this recession strong and we'll be in one of the best positions to experience a lot of growth once the economy picks back up. Just be patient.

As for Alabamians opposing growth, it is so true, it really does hold us back. What I really dislike is how Birmingham is a large city with a small town mentality. The thing that is wrong with that is that it really hinders it's ability to grow. Companies look at what people think when they decide where to grow. If a city doesn't think it is capable of attracting large amounts of growth, people and companies won't want to invest in that city because they don't see potential in it.

OMG! You see how I feel. Alot of times when I watch the times, I see alot of people opposing growth, like subdivisions. Sometimes, businesses that these people want to come may come because these subdivisions were built, which males way for more people and which brings in different demographics and classes. Alabamians are so scared that Alabama will lose its rural touch and that Alabama will turn into another Atlanta. Alabama is big enough to the point that if it grows by 2%, it really won't bother too much rural land because all of this growth can occur within cities and suburbs that have alot of land within them, like Huntsville. I don't know why Alabamians like opposing growth. This is all I'm saying, if South Carolina, a tad bit smaller than Alabama, can grow by over 70,000 people, then Alabama can.

Not everyone thinks more people/developent=better.
Personally, I think the issue is not about "more" but "better" development.
Either way, not everyone wants an influx of people in the area. There are many negatives to this as well. Don't get upset that not everyone wants giant sprawling metropolitan areas. That's why the US has a such a mobile population. Everyone's free to move.

You said you just started attending A&M... I thought you meant as a freshman am I wrong? From everything u said I thought u were a freshman at A&M that recently graduated high school not a transfer from a Junior college therefore you would have to be under 21 (the legal age to buy alcohol) unless you are really dumb and didn't graduate high school until you were 21.
