Default What's the Muscle Shoals MUSIC SCENE like these days?

Can anyone tell me about the Muscle Shoals music scene? Are there a lot/any clubs that play good live music? Is there more than just the legendary FAME recording studio operating there? on Wikipedia they make it sound like a really cool, very special music town - is this still true or is it no longer thriving? thanks - Heidi

There are a couple of other recording studios. I believe Mac MacAnally lives in the area and has a studio in his home that Jimmy Buffett uses occasionally, along with a studio in Key West. There are some clubs. But I would not move there and try to make a living as a musician, unless you are already well known and on the road a lot.

Remember, the area was dry (AKA no alcohol sales) until just a few years ago. One reason Fame had famous musicians coming in was because it was a dry area. Managers found it a good place to sent talent to WORK and not get distracted. So there are simply not a whole lot of bars with live music.
