Vulcan Materials? It's not THAT big a company.
Compass Bank was bought out by a Spanish banking company...First American Banks were bought out by a Canadian company...another banking company (can't think of the name now) was bought out and company HQ moved to Charlotte...Rust Engineering, well we know how construction is going these days...
Naming rights aren't that expensive honestly.... Citi spent a lot of money on that stadium because, I mean, look at who's playing there and how much exposure it gets!

Regions, is an enormous company that is fairing better than most other banks in the country, thanx to its conservative style of expansion. Don't forget, it's one of the top 10 banks in the country.

Healthsouth is still a viable company too.

Citi bought the naming rights before the government gave them money... if I'm not mistaken.

Mistaken or not, would have been more prudent for them not to acquire luxury "items" when recession comes a-knocking. I bet they (or others for that matter) have not gotten in bad shape overnight, the writting on the wall has been there all along. If you (as a bank) slowly get in debt (red), and see it coming for few financial reporting quarters, you don't go out and get in more debt, hoping to win the lottery to get back in black. Obviously the bailed out companies won the lottery. We, the people got burnt.

It's not an attack on you, just a comment to the situation we're in.

I know you weren't attacking me I think that they were idiots for paying 3 Billion dollars just for naming rights... Though, I wouldn't call it a bad idea, in their situation, it was a bad decision.

You, my friend are 100% right. The greed and arrogance of the corperate world is sickening. It's this " Mines gotta be bigger and better than yours attitude" that is destroying us.

Sadly, the federal governments idea of the correct way to fix this problem is to reduce the profitability of the companies instead of working with them to solve the problems and increase the cost effectiveness and efficiency of the industry...

So true, it's like a battle of the titans( morons) Greedy corperate bigshots vs. Power hungry control freaks of the federal goverment and the loser is....... the good ol American taxpayers, and it doesn't really make too much difference how you vote either, you get hit from the right or you get a sucker punch from the left.

Wow ! That sounds like a great idea ! We'll just call it the " Individual Recovery Act of 2009" just to make it official. Now that would be some serious stimulation.
